GM Fairfax Assembly Plant Produces 10 Millionth Car

Plant Adds Saturn Aura and Chevrolet Malibu SS Versions to its Portfolio

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – General Motors Fairfax Assembly plant recognized the production of its 10 millionth car, a black 2006 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx, on Friday, Aug. 19, 2005 with a special program.

“The program was a chance for us to look back on Fairfax Assembly’s history and commemorate our accomplishments,” said Plant Manager Paul Marr. “We are particularly pleased that the Chevrolet Malibu/Malibu Maxx received the Entry Midsize Car “best in segment” award in the 2005 J. D. Power and Associates Initial Quality Study SM.”

The Chevrolet Malibu also led the Entry Midsize Car segment in two other J. D. Power and Associates studies, the 2005 Vehicle Dependability Study SM (VDS, second year in a row) and the 2004 Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout Study (APEAL) SM.

The program kicked-off with remarks from UAW and GM Fairfax leadership, representatives from the State House and Senate, and the Unified Government of Wyandotte County Mayor and CEO Joe Reardon. The 10 millionth car was driven off the line by five Fairfax Assembly employees with the highest plant seniority.

“The plant’s longevity can be attributed to our employees’ commitment to teamwork and quality and the strength of our local partnerships—from the UAW and GM to our partnerships in the community,” said Dave Peterson, president of UAW Local 31. “These are the same strengths that have brought new investments and products to the plant, like the Saturn Aura.”

Fairfax Assembly is the exclusive manufacturer of the Chevrolet Malibu/Malibu Maxx. The 2006 Malibu portfolio includes the Malibu SS, a performance version, and the top-of-the line Malibu LTZ. Fairfax Assembly will add the all-new, mid-size Saturn Aura to its line-up, starting later in 2006. There are approximately 3,000 employees at the facility.
