WISE CHALLENGING FOR 2 EARL'S FQ TITLES

AUGUST 22, 2005

Josh Wise has closed in on two Earl's Fast Qualifier
Championship point leaders following results of last week's USAC races.
Wise now trails Dave Steele by just one point in the Weld
Racing Silver Crown FQ standings after winning the pole for Saturday's
"Tony Bettenhausen 100" at Springfield, Ill. He also trails Michael Lewis
by two points in the National Midget FQ standings, although Danny Stratton
was Saturday's fast qualifier for the "Hut Hundred" at Terre Haute, Ind.
Other top Earl's FQ point scorers last week were Mike
Spencer (CRA Sprints) and Tate Martz, Robbie Ray and Benny Moon (Ford Focus
Midgets).
Earl's points will be up for grabs this week in events at
Granite City, Ill. (National Sprints and Midgets), Milwaukee, Wis.
(Sprints), Sun Prairie, Wis. (Midgets), Santa Maria, Calif. (CRA
Sprints), Stockton, Calif. (Western Sprints and Midgets) and Mansfield,
Ohio, Seekonk, Mass. and Santa Maria, Calif. (Ford Focuses).
Points are awarded at each USAC event based on an
international system awarding the top-six qualifiers with points in the
following scale: 1st-9, 2nd-6, 3rd-4, 4th-3, 5th-2, 6th-1. When qualifying
is not held, points are awarded based on a system of lineup points earned
in the preliminary heats.
Each USAC National, Western and Ford Focus Midget Car
Earl's Plumbing FQ Champion will be honored at USAC's Champions Night
ceremony in Indianapolis. The National and Western FQ champs will receive
$5,000 each, while the Ford Focus FQ champs will each receive $1,000.
