TORRID WESTERN SPRINT POINT RACE MOVES TO STOCKTON FOR
SATURDAY'S 50-LAPPER
AUGUST 22, 2005
Saturday's 50-lap Valvoline USAC Western Sprint race at the
Stockton (Calif.) 99 Speedway features a fantastic duel for the series
point lead between several drivers.
The California Asphalt Sprintcar Association (CASA) is joining
with USAC for Saturday's event, which should produce a stellar field of
cars for this pivotal point race. Only 88 points separate the "top-five" in
the USAC standings with 74 available at Stockton.
Saturday's second leg of the Stockton "Triple Crown" finds
Kody Swanson leading the USAC points, 12 head of defending series titlist
Tony Hunt. Mike Murgoitio, Tim Barber and Brian McClish trail respectively.
CASA points leader Nick Rescino, Jr. is expected to lead that series'
participants as they challenge the USAC regulars.
Hunt is the only member of the current "top-five" who has yet
to win this season, despite six "top-five" finishes in seven starts.
The USAC Western Midgets are also part of Saturday's Stockton
program, with a 50-lap feature on tap.
