HERTA FINISHES 12TH IN XM SATELLITE RADIO CAR AT HONDA INDY 225
FOUNTAIN, Colo. (Aug. 21, 2005) - XM Satellite Radio driver Bryan Herta ran strong in the early
laps of Sunday's Honda Indy 225 at Pikes Peak International Raceway, but was then left with an ill-handling
car and went on to finish 12th.
Herta, who started third, took the second spot away from Sam Hornish Jr. on the third lap of the race
and ran in the top three for the first 30 laps. But then, the handle on the #7 XM Satellite Radio
Dallara/Honda/Firestone began to slip away and Herta started to lose positions.
A caution on lap 79 gave Herta a much-needed opportunity to rejoin the fight up front. However,
despite the best efforts of the XM crew, the car continued to be a handful for the rest of the 225-lap event.
Herta eventually lost a lap to the leaders on lap 115 and then battled through the remaining 110 laps, which
stayed under green-flag conditions.
Klein Tools/Jim Beam teammate Dan Wheldon went on to win the Honda Indy 225, followed by
Hornish, Team 7-Eleven driver Tony Kanaan, Helio Castroneves and Vitor Meira. With his 12th place finish,
Herta dropped one spot to eighth in the IndyCar Series standings, but trails fifth-place Castroneves by just 27
points with four races to go.
Herta and the XM Satellite Radio team will now head to Infineon Raceway for the inaugural IndyCar
Series event at the Sonoma, California road course next Sunday. The Argent Mortgage Indy Grand Prix will
be televised live by ESPN beginning at 3:30 p.m. (EDT). It can also be heard live by XM subscribers on
Extreme XM, channel 152.
Bryan Herta, #7 XM Satellite Radio Dallara/Honda/Firestone:
"The XM car just went away in a hurry today. We just had no grip out there and I don't know why. It's
very disappointing. I was certainly expecting a better day."
George Klotz, Team Manager, #7 XM Satellite Radio Dallara/Honda/Firestone:
"We started off this morning during the warmup and did a full stint, the XM Satellite Radio car was
good and we were happy with the way things went. For some unexplained reason, and that's the way things
sometimes work in racing, our car went off. It's kind of a mystery to us. Bryan hung on all day and finished
12th, but that's not really what we were looking for; we were hoping for much more after the way we ran all
weekend. We'll just have to move on to Sonoma and kick some butt there."
