SSP: Hodnett Wins on Pepsi Hot August Night

Newberrytown, PA (August 18, 2005) The Auto Channel reported that point leader Greg Hodnett scored his third Susquehanna Speedway Park Sprint Car win of the season on Thursday evening during Pepsi Hot August Nights. In other action Jason Rochelle was back for another Legends Car win, while Rick Reinoehl, Brent Foglesanger and Kendra Knaub all drove the same car to victories in various events for the Xtreme Stock Cars.

Hodnett started tenth in the 25-lap Sprint Car feature and quickly worked his way into the top five. As Hodnett was working his way through the pack front row starters Chad jumper and Cory Haas were pacing the field. Jumper led with Haas second, until Hodnett and Haas made contact on the eighth lap, with Haas flipping violently. Haas was uninjured. On the restart Jumper continued to pace the field, with Hodnett in hot pursuit. However, it wasn’t until the 16th lap that Hodnett took over the top spot. He went on to win over Eric Stambaugh, with Blane Heimbach third. Fred Rahmer and Alan Krimes completed the top five. Rounding out the top ten were Jason Johnson, Lance Dewease, Jumper, Bobby Weaver, and Chris Meleason. Heats went to Haas and Pat Cooper.

Rochelle started 12th in the Legends car feature, and began working his way toward the front as first Jim Halbert and then Randy Kissinger led the way. Rochelle took over the top spot on the 11th of 15 laps and went on to the victory over Kissinger. Randy Fetterhoff, Josh Morrow, and Butch Brough completed the top five. Heats went to Brough and Fetterhoff.

Reinoehl started the night by winning the Pepsi Dash for the Xtreme Stock Cars and ended it by winning the 30-lap feature. In the feature event, Reinoehl started 32nd, took the lead from Tom Slanker on the 20th lap, lost the lead to Mike Goodwin on the 28th lap, and then regained the top spot on the final lap. Smoke Christine finished second but failed to go through post race technical inspection and was disqualified. Goodwin was awarded second place, followed by Matt Wampler, Slanker and Ronnie Thomas.

Brent Fogelsanger drove the same number 1 Camaro to victory in the XSC Rookie Rumble, besting Charles Potts after swapping the lead several times. Brian Lomman, Rich Lomman and Matt Newcomber completed the top five. Earlier in the evening, Kendra Knaub used the same car to score a last lap win over Jonda Draucker in the Women on Wheels feature event. Butch Richcreek Jr. won the Minivan Construction Race.
