Iteris Lane Departure Warning System Hits the Road with Infiniti Five-City Tour

ANAHEIM, Calif.--Aug. 1, 2005; The Auto Channel reporterd that Iteris Inc. (AMEX:ITI), a leader in the development of vision-based technology that enhances driver safety, is taking its award-winning Lane Departure Warning (LDW) system on the road as part of the Infiniti Limited Engagement Summer Tour. The tour will showcase the technological advances featured in Infiniti's dynamic 2006 model lineup including the new M, Q45 Sport model and FX. Iteris is one of only three companies invited by Infiniti to participate in the tour, which will visit Northern California, Dallas, Miami, New York, and Chicago.

The LDW system, jointly developed for Nissan by Iteris and Valeo, was first introduced on the Infiniti FX sport utility vehicle and became the first production application of the technology in the North American passenger car market. The system is now also available on the all-new 2006 Infiniti M performance sedan at 177 Infiniti dealerships nationwide.

The vision-based LDW technology was developed to help address the nation's single largest cause of highway fatalities -- unintended lane departures caused by distracted, inattentive or drowsy drivers. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), more than 1.5 million automobile accidents are caused by distracted or drowsy drivers, a staggering statistic that claims the lives of over 23,000 people every year in the U.S.

The LDW system was first deployed in the worldwide commercial truck market by Iteris and is now the only system of its kind in mass production for the passenger car market in the U.S. The LDW system uses a vision-based camera and proprietary software algorithms to monitor the lane markings in front of the vehicle. If a driver makes an unintentional lane departure (without using a turn signal), the system automatically emits an audible warning that alerts the driver to take corrective action.

Iteris has received numerous industry awards for its LDW system in the last year. The honors include the Nissan Global Innovation Award; ITS America's "Best of ITS" Award; the Automotive News 2005 PACE Award; CAA Pyramid Award for Safety Innovation; and one of 50 leading technology innovations on the "Scientific American 50."
