>
> West Lebanon, NY: Howard Commander's Lebanon Valley Speedway played host
> to the First Ever Appearance of the Stacker2® DIRT Late Model Series, and
> it was the first ever appearance for a Rookie, and for a Veteran in
> victory lane. A packed house was on hand to witness many firsts, just the
> gift that kept on giving.
>
>
>
> First, Josh "Kid Rocket" Richards started the Carquest Auto Parts/Team
> Goewey Dodge 50 Late Model feature, on the front row of the 24 car field,
> and at the green, found himself dropped to third in a matter of moments.
> The legendary Scott Bloomquist, arguably the king of Late Models, powered
> from his 3rd starting position in the first turn to the head of the pack,
> and began to check out on the field. What looked like a runaway, change
> quickly, as the field rounded the 19th lap on the speedway; Bloomquist
> suffered a terminal transmission failure, forcing him to the trailer.
> But, at the same time, 2nd place runner, the #24 of Rick Eckert, blew an
> oil fitting on his ride, spewing fluid down the front stretch and into
> turn 1. That caused a multi-car pileup that took out several cars,
> including Modified regulars Brett Hearn, and Billy Decker. Eric Jacobsen,
> Jeremy Miller, and Tony Lombardi were also involved; Lombardi was the only
> car to return to action.
>
>
>
> After the melee was cleaned up, it was the "Kid Rocket", Josh Richards out
> front, with previous Modified hot shoe "T-Mac" Timmy McCreadie in hot
> pursuit. But the dyed-blonde bullet had nothin' for Richards, as he
> motored his Seubert Calf Ranches, Rocket Chassis # 1 to the $10,000.00 pay
> day, the first of his Late Model career! The stunned Richards was
> dumbfounded by his conquest, "I thought I was gonna have a heart attack
> the last few laps, and when those cautions came out. I just kept telling
> myself 'it's just like a heat race' to keep myself calmed down. To do
> what we did tonight, it's pretty cool!"
>
>
>
> "T-Mac" stayed in the gas to finish 2nd, followed by the #33 of Scott
> Haus. The #44 of Clint Smith and the #1* of Chubb Frank rounded out the
> top 5.
>
>
>
> To cap off the night of "firsts", the veteran driver, Mike "Kingfish" King
> finally found himself in victory lane. It took 33 seasons of hard work,
> and hundreds of race to get there, but the dream had finally come true.
> As the Modifieds took to the Valley of Speed for their 30 lap feature, the
> front row was housed by two veterans of the Valley; Donnie Ackner of West
> Sand Lake, driving the #88 car of Ronnie Dwyer, and King's familiar #55
> PMC.
>
>
>
> And at the green, Ackner checked out on King, who settled into 2nd place
> with no real pressure coming from behind. In what seemed like a "gimme",
> was quickly changed as Ackner suffered motor problems by lap 20, and was
> relegated to a 19th place finish, handing the lead to the Thoma Tire,
> Sunnyside Auto #55. And with a borrowed motor, he held off the late race
> charge from the #74 of J.R. Heffner, and John Hewitt's #24.
>
>
>
> After making his way from the scales, King parked the #55 on the front
> stretch, and the party began. The stunned King, whose been racing since
> 1973, rose from his car, only to be greeted by a resounding cheer from
> everyone at the speedway. He sat on the roof of his car, and wouldn't
> come down. "If you want an interview, you gotta come up here, cause I'm
> not moving" explained King to track announcer John Stanley. "I just can't
> believe we're finally here.." he added to the delight of the crowd. I'm
> sure he'll still be partying with his family and friends for many weeks to
> come!
>
>
>
> The excited King was followed by Heffner's #74 and the #24 of Hewitt.
> Fourth was held by Dave Leckonby, and Brett Hearn rounded out the top 5.
>
>
>
> This coming Saturday, Lebanon Valley Speedway's action will be presented
> by Benjamin Moore Paints. The program entitled "Triple Nickel" Night will
> bring plenty of action to the speedway, with a bit of a twist. Also on
> tap, will be the Northeast Vintage Modifieds. Gates open at 5pm, racing
> starts at 6 pm.
