Agilent Technologies Introduces High-Brightness, Surface-Mount White LEDs for Automotive Interior Applications; New Devices Equivalent in Form and Function to Osram TopLED and Power TopLED Products, Offer Industry-Best Lead Time
PALO ALTO, Calif.--Aug. 1, 20056, 2005--Agilent Technologies Inc. today introduced a family of high-brightness, white light-emitting diodes in the industry-standard PLCC-2 (plastic leaded chip carrier) and Power PLCC-4 surface-mount form factor. These white LEDs are drop-in replacements for the Osram TopLED and Power TopLED products in automotive interior lighting applications, and are offered with the industry's shortest lead time of four weeks."There is tremendous market demand for high-brightness white surface-mount LEDs," said Cheng Kai Chong, worldwide marketing manager for the Optoelectronic Products Division in Agilent's Semiconductor Products Group. "Our new products meet the performance, quality and short lead-time requirements of automotive lighting manufacturers. The new InGaN white LEDs complement Agilent's existing AlInGaP and InGaN color PLCC-2 and PLCC-4 LEDs, giving customers the benefit of one-stop shopping."
Agilent's HSMW-A10xx and HSMW-A40xx series white surface-mount (SMT) LEDs feature a super-wide 120-degree viewing angle, making them ideal for panel, push-button, or general backlighting in automotive interiors. Their flat top-emitting surface makes it easy to mate these LEDs with light pipes. With their built-in reflector increasing the intensity of the light output, these LEDs are also well suited for automotive ambient lighting such as vanity mirror lights, cabin lights/dome lights, and car-door puddle lights. Other applications include panel, push-button, or general backlighting in office and industrial equipment and home appliances, variable message signs, and indoor and outdoor ambient lighting for businesses and residences.
In the PLCC-2 package, the Agilent HSMW-A101-R50J1 provides 100 mcd (millicandela) minimum luminous intensity (Iv); the HSMW-A100-T50J1 provides 250 mcd minimum Iv. The Iv specifications are based on both products operating at 20 mA forward current. In the Power PLCC-4 package, the HSMW-A400-U00M2 provides 400 mcd minimum Iv when operating at 30 mA forward current.
The HSMW-A10xx and HSMW-A40xx series LEDs are supplied in Agilent's reliable and optically efficient packages, and operate over a -40 C to +100 C temperature range to assure reliability in harsh automotive environments. To facilitate easy pick-and-place assembly, the LEDs are packed in EIA-compliant tape and reel. Every reel is shipped with devices selected for uniformity of both brightness and color. These LEDs are compatible with both the infrared solder reflow and through-the-wave soldering processes.
U.S. Pricing and Availability
Pricing of Agilent's PLCC SMT white LEDs range from $0.23 to $0.34 each in high-volume quantities. Samples and production quantities (four-week lead time) are available now through Agilent's direct sales channel and its authorized distributors.
