HARRIS, BARBER REVIVE CALIFORNIA FOCUS POINTS BATTLE, ONLY THIS TIME ON
PAVEMENT
INDIANAPOLIS – Californians Alex Harris of Simi Valley and Chase Barber of
Morgan Hill revive their season-long battle in quest of USAC California Ford
Focus Midget Car Series titles, only this time their combat continues on the
hardtop.
For the first time in nearly two months, the California drivers will compete
on the pavement, as competitors head Saturday to Stockton 99 Speedway in
Stockton, Calif. for points counting toward the Pavement title.
Harris, the 1997 and ‘98 USAC TQ Midget Car Series titlist, leads the chase
for the Pavement championship, 10 points up on his counterpart Barber.
Barber, in his second season of Ford Focus racing, in turn wrestled the Dirt
points lead from Harris during a three-race stint two weeks ago.
Stockton has hosted three California Ford Focus Pavement Midget Car Series
features this season, with Harris and Barber splitting the ticket. Irwindale
(Calif.) Speedway’s third-mile held the last action for the series June 25,
with Barber ending the night in Victory Lane.
Early season points leader Audra Sasselli of Fresno, Calif. looks to pounce
at any given opportunity. She sits third in the standings, 31 points out of
the lead.
