Porter named KCR team manager
Eddyville, Ky. – J.J. Porter has been promoted to the position of team manager, Keith Coleman Racing announced today.
Porter brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the position that he has accumulated while working on the Nascar Nextel Cup Series, Nascar Busch Series and Nascar Craftsman Truck Series. His resume includes experience in virtually every area of racing, including working as a crew chief for Means Jenkins Motorsports.
“This is a great opportunity,” said Porter. “The team has done quite a bit to establish itself over the past year and I feel we are right on the cusp of taking some giant steps forward, both on the track and off. We need a few more people, including an experienced fabricator, but the team is really starting to gel together as a unit.”
The 30-year-old Clintwood, Va. native came to KCR as team engineer in the 2005 campaign. He holds a degree in business management and his professional demeanor and extensive knowledge quickly endeared him to the race car drivers he works with.
“JJ has done a great job for us,” said Mark Green, driver of the #23 BMAR Chevrolet. “His shocks and front suspension knowledge have really helped with our handling. I can certainly tell the difference since he has come on board.”
Kim Crosby, driver of the #26 Vassarette Chevrolet, echoed Green’s sentiments.
“He’s been a life saver,” she said. ‘I’ve got a lot of confidence in JJ and his work and I know that he has helped me on several occasions.”
In addition to his duties as team manager, Porter will also continue to be responsible for the front suspension for both cars and will be available to both teams at the race track as needed.
“JJ has proved himself to me and to everyone in the shop,” said Keith Coleman, team owner. “I’m thrilled to have him with us in this capacity and I know he’s going to be instrumental in our organization for a long, long time.”
