Norwich Union Fails to Consult With Amicus Over RAC Job Loses
LONDON, August 15 -- Amicus Britain's biggest private sector union is furious over Norwich Union's approach to making hundreds of staff redundant at RAC. Staff learnt of their fate at 10.00am this morning. Norwich union failed to consult with Amicus over the planned job loses. Amicus believes that the way this announcement has been handled breaches UK redundancy law. The union will be applying for a protective award for the company's failure to consult.
Amicus National Secretary David Fleming says,
"We are extremely disappointed at the cavalier approach Norwich union has taken to the livelihoods of so many hardworking and loyal staff. There has been no consultation and the staff at RAC are understandably shocked. Amicus will be talking to the staff and our next steps will be guided by them. Norwich Union bought up RAC to access their lucrative membership but have dropped their social responsibilities."
