Autosport Development Race Report from Denver
#5 GMAC Commercial Finance / Trenton Forging GTO Finishes 9th
Denver - Aug. 14 – Improving on a 16th place starting position, Stu
Hayner drove the #5 GMAC Commercial Finance / Trenton Forging GTO to
a 9th place finish in today’s SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge
GT race in Denver. The SPEED World Challenge series is participating
in the Centrix Financial Grand Prix of Denver.
“All-in-all, I’d have to say I’m pretty pleased with our finish,”
said Hayner. “It just seems we were down on power all weekend. The
car has been handling well… in fact, the handling is excellent, but
it just hasn’t had the snap that you usually feel when you have good
power. We made some adjustments after qualifying, and it was a bit
better during the race.”
“We had some experience with this track from when we ran here with
Trans-Am several years ago,” Hayner continued. “In fact, we were the
fastest car in qualifying here in 2003. We had hoped that would be an
advantage… and I think it was from a handling standpoint. We’ll take
the 9th place and move on to Mosport.”
Hayner’s teammate, Jim Osborn in the #7 Remote Area Medical GTO took
home the Sunoco Hard Charger Award for improving the greatest number
of positions in the race. Osborn started 23rd and finished 14th.
Today’s race will air Saturday, August 20th at 2pm EST on SPEED Channel.
The Series will move on to Mosport International Raceway in
Bowmanville, Ontario, September 2nd - 4th for the Labour Day Grand
Prix of Mosport.
