Wheel Bearing Failure Ends Franchitti's Day at Kentucky

SPARTA, Ky. (Aug. 14, 2005) - A wheel bearing failure spelled an early end for ArcaEx driver Dario
Franchitti, resulting in an 18th-place finish in Sunday's running of the Indy Racing LeagueŽ IndyCarŽ Series
AMBER Alert Portal Indy 300 at Kentucky Speedway.
As he has been throughout the season, Franchitti was among the fastest cars on the track Sunday.
Starting from the ninth position, he moved as high as third when he pitted the ArcaEx car for its first pit stop on
lap 30. Exiting the pits, the right rear wheel came loose. Franchitti skillfully kept the car under control, drove
back to the pit box where the ArcaEx team replaced the missing assembly, and rejoined the field in 22nd place.
Within 13 laps he was back among the top-10 and was fighting among the top-three when the bearing failure
occurred on lap 169.
Scott Sharp earned his first victory of the season, with Vitor Meira second, Dan Wheldon was third,
followed by Alex Barron in fourth and Helio Castroneves fifth.
Franchitti remains fourth in the driver points standings with 345 points through 12 events, 110 points shy
of leader Wheldon and just five points out of third place.
Next up for Franchitti and the rest of the IndyCar Series teams is the Honda Indy 225 at Pikes Peak
International Raceway on Sunday, Aug. 21. The event will be televised live by ABC, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
(EDT). It can also be heard live by XM Satellite Radio subscribers by tuning into Extreme XM, channel 152.

Dario Franchitti, #27 ArcaEx Dallara/Honda/Firestone:
"A wheel bearing went in the rear suspension, which I think is the same problem as Tony (Kanaan). It
almost put me into the wall and almost put Tony in the wall as well. It's unfortunate and the ArcaEx team
deserves better. It's the same problem we had at Nashville."

Kyle Moyer, General Manager, Andretti Green Racing:
"Again, like it's been all year: fastest car, bad result. It's good that Dan extended his points lead in the
championship, but the ArcaEx car had problems with a wheel bearing so we just have to go home, fix it and get
ready for Pikes Peak."
