HERTA SUFFERS GEARBOX FAILURE; FINISHES 19TH AT KENTUCKY

SPARTA, Ky. (Aug. 14, 2005) - XM Satellite Radio driver Bryan Herta suffered a gearbox
overheating issue that plagued him all day and ultimately led to an early exit at Sunday's running of the
AMBER Alert Portal Indy 300. Herta finished 19th in the 200-lap event at Kentucky Speedway and is
currently seventh in the Indy Racing LeagueŽ IndyCarŽ Series championship standings.
Herta started the race in 11th position and fell several spots back in the opening laps of the race.
Over the course of the race, Herta would work his way to as high as eighth place. However, during each of
Herta's three pit stops, the crew had to make an adjustment in an attempt to cool the gearbox. With less
than 60 laps remaining in the event, the XM Satellite Radio crew brought Herta in for the final time and called
it a day.
Scott Sharp won his first race of the season and Vitor Meira finished second. Herta's Andretti Green
Racing teammate Dan Wheldon finished third and increased his lead in the championship to 90 points. Alex
Barron and Helio Castroneves rounded out the top five.
The IndyCar Series schedule continues Sunday, Aug. 21, from Pikes Peak International Raceway.
Live coverage of the Honda Indy 225 begins at 3:30 p.m. (EDT) on ABC. It can also be heard live by XM
Satellite Radio subscribers on Extreme XM, channel 152.

Bryan Herta, #7 XM Satellite Radio Dallara/Honda/Firestone:
"I'm not really sure why, but the gearbox overheated. We tried to open the cooling up but that didn't
fix the problem either. The XM Satellite Radio team was really looking for a solid finish to follow up our win in
Michigan, but sometimes that's the way it goes."

Martin Pare, Race Engineer, #7 XM Satellite Radio Dallara/Honda/Firestone:
"This was not the finish the XM Satellite Radio team was looking for. We had an overheating issue
with the gearbox and it knocked us out of the race. We'll regroup and be ready for Pikes Peak."
