Dion Verhoeven wins CASCAR PowerWater Sportsman Series race at Barrie Speedway
BARRIE, ON - Dion Verhoeven won Saturday night's CASCAR PowerWater
Sportsman Series race at Barrie Speedway. The driver of the McRobert Fuels
Pontiac started third in the field of 23 for the fourth PowerWater Series
race of the season and passed Brad Graham with five laps to go in the race.
Graham, the defending champion of CASCAR's Sportsman Series,
started on the pole for the 100-lap event and looked as though he was going
to lead the entire race until contact between he and Verhoeven knocked him
out of contention and down to a 10th-place finish. Graham's pole-winning
qualifying effort of 14.366 seconds broke the overall CASCAR qualifying
record at Barrie, which was set by Super Series driver Kerry Micks in early
July.
Second-place at Barrie went to multi-time PowerWater Series champ
Steve Robblee, of Dorchester, ON. London, ON racer Mike Alguire took the
final podium position in his Pontiac.
The next outing for the PowerWater Sportsman Series takes place on
Saturday, August 20 at Peterborough Speedway.
