24TH ANNUAL NHRA LUCAS OIL NATIONALS
BRAINERD INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY - BRAINERD, MINN.
AUGUST 11-14, 2005
McClenathan after points at BIR
BRAINERD, Minn. (August 10, 2005) - Following three consistent outings
by the FRAM AirHog dragster in the last three races, the Carrier Boyz
Racing team and its driver Cory McClenathan set sights on this weekend's
24th NHRA Lucas Oil Nationals at BIR, Brainerd International Raceway, in
the heart of the "Land of 10,000 Lakes."
McClenathan, currently No. 9 in the NHRA POWERade point standings, knows
he must make a move this weekend if he is to realize his goal of
finishing in the top five this season.
"We started out the season with consistency and that got us to a final
round at Houston," said McClenathan, "but then we hit a slump after that
and took a hit in points. Over the last three races (crew chief) Todd
Smith and (clutch specialist) Bob Bauer have things turned around and
we've returned to top five contender status once again. Now this FRAM
AirHog needs to start making up ground if this Carrier Boyz Racing team
is to realize our goal of a top five finish in POWERade points.
"It's getting tough just to qualify, especially in the top half of the
field. Top Fuel has become like Pro Stock has been for the last several
years. You feel like you've accomplished something if you just get in
the field for Sunday's eliminations.
"Anybody that makes the Top Fuel field can beat you but there are six to
eight teams that can beat you consistently. Those are the teams we must
now meet and beat head-on if we are going to get back in the top five.
We must get off Bob Frey's B-list and stay on his A-list."
QUALIFYING: Qualifying gets underway for McClenathan and the Carrier
Boyz Racing FRAM AirHog Dragster with two sessions on Friday, scheduled
