GEICO Names Tama Ruiz Vice President of Information Systems

WASHINGTON, Aug. 9, 2005 -- GEICO's board of directors recently announced the promotion of Tama Ruiz of Ellicott City, Md., to vice president of the company's information systems. She will manage such main frame systems operations as sales, billing, data warehousing, and the systems operations department.

Prior to this, Ruiz was the assistant vice president of applications and maintenance for GEICO's underwriting systems.

Ruiz joined GEICO in 1993 after 21 years with the Maryland Insurance Group where she began as a programmer and left managing the information technology function.

She holds a bachelor's degree in behavioral social sciences from the University of Maryland and attended the executive education program at the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University. Ruiz is a Certified Systems Professional (CSP) and Life Office Management Association (LOMA) member.
