New Century Entries Compete in Four Glen Races
Company President Goes for First Rolex Series Podium
WATKINS GLEN, NY., August 9, 2005 - Pat Flanagan (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) has
long been a racer. He grew-up in a family of racers but big business called
the young Midwesterner, now living in California, away from the sport. As
the president of New Century Mortgage, Flanagan knew the benefits of
marketing through motorsports and moved his company in that direction. Now,
New Century is making company history as it, and sister company HOME 123, of
which Flanagan is CEO, will sponsor entries in four divisions of the three
major races to be held this weekend at Watkins Glen International in upstate
New York. With the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series joining the NASCAR
NEXTEL Cup and NASCAR Busch Grand National divisions on the 2.45-mile "short
course" at the historic track, Flanagan will also slide back behind the
wheel of the Aasco Motorsports-prepared No. 26 New Century Mortgage Porsche
911 GT3 Cup in the 200-mile/ two hour event to be held on Friday, August
12th. He will join Patrick Long (Las Vegas, Nev.) in the white, gold and
green Porsche for the fourth-time this season in the GT class of the Rolex
Series.
The CompUSA 200 at the Glen will pair Flanagan and Long together again for
the first time since the June 30th night event at Daytona International
Speedway (DIS), where the Series also ran with the top NASCAR series. Thus
far, Flanagan and Long have shown speed but have not been able to break onto
the GT class podium in the first three of the six races they plan to run
this season. To date, the best finish for the combination has been fourth at
their debut together at California Speedway in April. Long qualified the No.
26 third for the event, the team's best start of the season. They finished
26th at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca after an incident took them out early.
12th was the result for the Dennis Aase-owned team at Daytona following
damage to the Porsche. The flowing, natural terrain of the Watkins Glen
circuit should prove to be a strong course for the two Irish descendants.
New Century Mortgage will use the Rolex Series to gain the lion's share of
its exposure this weekend with the Aasco-entry in the GT class and the No.
02 Daytona Prototype of Chip Ganassi with Felix Sabates in the faster
Daytona Prototype (DP) class. Home 123 will focus on the NASCAR divisions
for attention as they back two more Ganassi entries with the No. 41 Busch
Grand National stock car of Reed Sorenson racing on Saturday and the NEXTEL
Cup No. 42 of Jamie McMurray headlining on Sunday.
The CompUSA 200 at the Glen can be seen on SPEED Channel at 10 PM (EDT) on
Friday evening. Live coverage of the event, via timing and scoring, can be
found at www.GrandAmerican.com <http://www.grandamerican.com/> .
Pat Flanagan:
About New Century's major involvement in each race being run this weekend at
Watkins Glen: "It is going to be a big weekend for the New Century Mortgage
teams. We will be racing the New Century Mortgage / Aasco Performance GT3
Cup car in GT, the New Century Mortgage Daytona Prototype will be there and
in Busch and NEXTEL Cup, our other brand, HOME 123 will be primary sponsor
for Reed Sorenson's [No.] 41-car in Busch and the 42-car of Jamie McMurray
in Cup. It is a very exciting weekend for the company and shows our
commitment to motorsports. It also demonstrates exactly where we feel our
best method to reach our clients, and potential clients, exists. We would
not be investing in the sport if we didn't see a direct response to our
involvement."
About the No. 26 New Century Mortgage Porsche: "We are looking forward to
the race. The short course at Watkins Glen will be very busy and very fast.
As is getting to be the norm in Grand American racing, dealing with traffic
and running clean will be the key to a successful race. With the team not
participating in last weekend's race, Dennis [Aase] and the guys have had
time to make sure we are well prepared for the weekend. Anytime you have a
Dennis Aase-prepared car and can hand over the wheel to Patrick Long, you
have a great shot at a podium finish."
