General Motors Accelerates Delivery of Emergency Backordered Parts With OEConnection's D2D Express(R)
RICHFIELD, Ohio, Aug. 8, 2005 -- OEConnection, LLC, a leader in ecommerce procurement and analysis solutions for the automotive original equipment replacement parts business, announced today that General Motors - the world's largest vehicle manufacturer - will implement D2D Express, OEConnection's ecommerce fulfillment and incremental sales tool designed to facilitate same-day or next-day delivery of backordered parts. With D2D Express, General Motors anticipates saving a full day over previous delivery timeframes helping dealers speed repairs and increase customer satisfaction. GM will offer D2D Express to their 6,800 dealer points nationwide as a no charge, value-added service.
D2D Express complements OEConnection's D2DLink(R) online parts procurement tool used today by nearly 90% of all GM dealers. D2DLink captures participating dealer inventories on a nightly basis providing immediate and easily accessible visibility of in-channel inventory. D2D Express then uses sophisticated sourcing algorithms, based on time and distance, to automatically identify backordered parts in circulation and proactively offer stocking dealers the opportunity to sell. The order is filled by the first dealer to accept the online transaction.
Eric Hylen, GM Parts Systems Manager, stated, "Prior to D2D Express, our technology required manual intervention for our dealers to locate a backordered part. By partnering with OEConnection, D2D Express now automates the process allowing our dealers to concentrate on their business-at-hand while still enjoying the benefit of incremental sales opportunities. With D2D Express, we can quickly determine the availability of a backordered part and facilitate a much faster transaction resulting in a win for the dealer, the customer, and General Motors."
OEConnection Vice President - Supply Chain Solutions, Ted Fellowes added, "Our products are designed to help drive original equipment parts sales and customer satisfaction while keeping inventory costs low and service levels high. Industry statistics have typically revealed that parts stock-outs force consumers to leave their vehicles overnight 14% of the time, creating undue customer inconvenience and increased loaner expense. By using our proven expertise in online parts procurement, we can help alleviate these concerns for manufacturers and their dealers by cost-effectively sourcing a needed part most anywhere -- and selling it everywhere."
To begin using D2D Express, dealers need high speed Internet access and must be enrolled in OEConnection's D2DLink parts locator program. Given the convenience of the D2D Express online tool, dealers can begin fulfilling orders immediately upon enrollment in the program.
D2D Express is currently in national rollout following a successful pilot and transition from GM's previous backorder fulfillment program.
