MEYER, CHESTERMAN SIZZLE AT NEBRASKA MOTORPLEX'S LUCAS  OIL SERIES EVENT

            SCRIBNER, Neb. - The NHRA West Central Division wrapped up its
fourth of six NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series events this weekend at
Nebraska Motorplex's Miller Lite Summer Sizzle.  The division's reigning Top
Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions, Randy Meyer and Cy
Chesterman, each extended their 2005 points lead with wins at the Scribner
track.  Local favorite, Tom Gilligan of Fremont, took the win in Sportsman
Motorcycle.

            Meyer, a Spring Hill, Kan., resident, was the No. 1qualifier and
he beat the No. 8 qualifier, Troy Kaiser of Littleton, Colo., in the first
round.  His next two opponents, Dana Stripe, Galesburg, Ill., and Richard
Putz, Earlville, Iowa, both red-lighted.  In the semis against Stripe, Meyer
ran 5.840 seconds at 251.04 mph and against Putz in the final round he ran
5.803 seconds at 245.83 mph.  This was Meyer's fourth final-round appearance
in divisional competition this year.  He scored wins in Dallas, Great Bend,
Kan., and here.  He was the runner-up in Brainerd, Minn.

            Sioux City, Iowa's Chesterman is earned the division Top Alcohol
Funny Car crown last year as well as the class' national title.  He
qualified in the No. 4 spot this weekend and beat Bruce Carlson of Lake
Prior, Minn., in the first round.  In the semifinals he earned a hole-shot
victory over veteran racer Vern Moats, Des Moines, Iowa.  In the final,
Chesterman faced off against former division champ Kirk Williams of
Glenwood, Iowa.  Chesterman took the win in a very close race, 6.000 seconds
at 245.16 mph to 6.006 seconds at 242.65 mph.  According to timing data,
Chesterman took the stripe by three feet.  For Chesterman, this marked his
second win of the season.  The first came in Brainerd.  He also scored
runner-up points in Denver.

            Gary Stinnett made two final-round appearances at Nebraska
Motorplex.  The Emporia, Kan., racer beat Mitch Mustard, Arvada, Colo., in
Super Comp and was runner-up to Frisco, Texas' Korey Mawhee in Super Stock.
In Comp Eliminator Michael Johnson, Springdale, Ark., beat Paul Anderson,
Erie, Colo., and Stock Eliminator racer Gene Mosbek, Elk River, Minn., beat
Chris Knudsen, Grimes, Iowa.  Steve Johnson, Arvada, Colo., took the win
over Tracy Pedigo, Wichita, Kan., in Super Gas and Jeff Landholm, Oakland,
Neb., beat out Frank Nichols Jr., Grand Island, Neb., in Super Street.
Gilligan beat Anoka, Minn., racer Brian Johnson in Sportsman Motorcycle.

            NHRA West Central Division racers head to Topeka, Kan., for the
next NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event.  The race at Heartland Park
Topeka is slated for August 26 and 27.
