Green 21st at Indianapolis Raceway Park
Claremont, Ind. – Mark Green finished 21st in the #23 Vassarette Chevrolet at Indianapolis Raceway Park on Saturday night.
Green started in 28th, position and held steady through the first 50 plus laps of the race. When a thunderstorm brought out the race’s first yellow flag, Green remained on the track rather than pitting and picked up five bonus points for leading a lap. The race was red-flagged when the rain intensified and Green remained in first for several laps after the restart before making his own pit stop.
“We’re no different from anyone else,” said Green. “We had a chance to stay out and pick up some bonus points so we did it. You’ve got to do that when you have an opportunity because you never know when five points can be the difference in being locked into the field or having to qualify.”
Green praised his crew for the car’s performance.
“The guys just keep doing better,” said Green. “They’ve been working and working to give me a car I can run well in and I can’t say enough about the job they’ve been doing. Especially in the last month or so, they’ve really done an excellent job in preparing the cars.”
The Kroger 200 was won by Nascar Busch Series points leader Martin Truex. The race was extended by a late caution and Green was one of 23 drivers that completed all 204 laps.
