BLOOMINGTON SPEEDWAY

!!! BRISCOE WINS #2 !!!

HARRIS & BOKNECHT SCORE TOO

BLOOMINGTON, IN (AUGUST 6, 2005) - Bloomington Speedway's grandstands were full to overflowing with great race fans including a huge group of members of the South Central Building and Construction Trades Council. This group always has a great time when they visit Bloomington Speedway; and last night was no exception. These guys work hard for their money; and they expect it to go along way even when they're out for a Friday night of fun like they were last night. I'm sure that they will all agree that they got a lot of value for their money last night.

SPRINT CARS -

Last night was the last chance for our sprint car racers to tune up for the Sheldon Kinser Memorial; and 26 of them showed up to get that last preparation done. Several of them were also preparing for MOPAR Thunder which is being run tonight at Tony Stewart's Eldora Speedway. Whatever their extra incentives were for taking on the red clay of Bloomington Speedway were, their main goal last night was to take the Bloomington Speedway feature win.

Bobby Stines got his evening off to a good start by setting quick time. Brent Beauchamp, A.J. Anderson, Derek O'Dell, Brady Short, and Danny Holtsclaw made up the balance of the cars for the invert. That, of course assumed that the fastest six cars would all transfer to the feature.

Shane Hollingsworth, Kevin Chambers, and Jason Knoke won the heat races. Bobby Stines, Brent Beauchamp, and Brady Short all failed to transfer from their heat race and would have to find their way to the feature via the "B" feature. Brady Short was working his way to a transfer position when he slipped off of the edge of the track in turn two and had to be restarted. When the green flag came out again, Brady started working his way through the field to earn a berth in the feature; but he ran out of laps. Bobby Stines led the "B" feature from start to finish with 14 year old Brent Beauchamp on his tail. Jon Sciscoe, Kevin Besecker, and Steve Rone picked up the rest of the transfer spots. Brady Short finished sixth just missing the feature.

As they say, it is indeed an ill wind that blows no good. Brady's misfortune turned out to be a big help to Kevin Briscoe. The invert moved back one car; and, instead of starting seventh, Kevin would start on the pole. Kevin is a hard man to beat on Bloomington Speedway's red clay regardless of where he starts; but from the pole he might well be unbeatable. As it turned out, he led the feature flag to flag; and he was never seriously challenged.

Dick Gaines II started dead last; but everyone on the hillside knew that Gaines could, with some luck, work his way through the field to challenge for the lead. At the end of the tenth circuit Gaines was running 13th; and, at the end of the 20th lap, Gaines was running fifth. On the 22nd lap Gaines passed Derek O'Dell to take fourth. On the 24th lap, he got past Danny Holtsclaw to take third; but that was as far as he would get. He will, no doubt, plan on starting closer to the front tonight at Eldora. Word has it that he will have a little bit of help tonight as his car owner, Danny Roberts, is reported to have purchased a Karl Kinser motor for tonight's race.

No doubt a lot of the guys racing at Eldora tonight will be preparing for the Sheldon Kinser Memorial next Friday.

Boknecht and Humphrey Battle When Cramer Sidelined -

O'Neal Wood Products/Monroe County Pizza Dept modified points leader Jesse Cramer finished second in the dash to earn an outside front row starting position for the modified feature. From the wave of the green flag, Cramer looked like the man to beat. However, Cramer's mount was beginning to smoke on the eighth lap. About that time Joe Gilbert spun in turn one bringing out the yellow flag. Under the yellow flag, Cramer's motor seemed to be getting worse. He returned to the pits with all manner of "what it's?" running through his mind.

With Cramer out of the picture, two equally tough competitors were left battling for the lead. Matt Boknecht and Ray Humphrey had been fighting for second; and they were now fighting each other for the lead. They ran the rest of the feature as if they were tied together; and, for much of it, they were side by side with neither of them having much more than a few inches of a lead. Boknecht wound up winning by about a car length.

The fight for third turned out to be equally torrid. Shelby Miles found his way to the feature by winning the "B" feature. Although he started 17th in the feature, by the tenth lap he was running fifth. On the 12 lap, he passed Greg Deckard to take fourth place. Miles and A.J. Bowlen fought for the third place for the rest of the distance to the checkered flags. Miles passed Bowlen for the final time with two laps to go. Greg Deckard held on to finish fifth.

In preliminary action, Bowlen, Joe Gilbert, Boknecht, and Cramer won the heat races while Miles won the "B" feature; and Bowlen took the dash.

Tire & Wheel Center Super Stocks -

Last night was Tire & Wheel Center super stock racer appreciation night. As a thank you to our loyal competitors, Mike Miles and some of our good sponsors put up extra prize money to thank them for being with up every Friday night.

In the Tire & Wheel Center Super Stock division, Gary Trammell won the Dash to earn the right to start the super stock feature on the pole. He took the lead from the green until the 14th lap when Trammell apparently suffered mechanical failure. Danny Harris inherited the lead that he would hold for the balance of the distance to the checkered flags. Jeremy Hines ran the final laps of feature in second place; but he wasn't able to get past Harris. Chris Deweese started the feature in seventh place; and worked his way to third by the sixteenth lap. He caught Jeremy Hines who had been Harris for the entire distance; however, he was never able to get past him. Hines his fight to take over the lead to be just as frustrating. He could catch Harris; but he couldn't pass him.

Winston Howe turned in one of his best performance to date when he started in mid pack and fought his way to a fourth place finish. Troy Clark rounded out the top five.

Mike Jones started the feature last and fought his way to a seventh place finish.

In preliminary action, Steve Hollars, Gary Trammell, and Danny Harris won our heat races while Trammell also won the dash. Troy Clark went on to take the "B" feature.
