Summer Thunder Rumbles into Edgewater Sports Park;

Unfortunately so does the Rain

 

 

     Cleves, Ohio - Afternoon rains forced the cancellation of many of
the first rounds of qualifying at Summer Thunder -- the fourth of six
2005 events of the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series being contested in
NHRA's North Central Division -- Top Alcohol Dragster, Top Alcohol Funny
Car and Competition Eliminator qualifying were all lost to the weather.

Current leaders in other qualified Lucas Oil Series classes included
Dave Layer, of Dayton, Ohio, who is currently No. 1 in Super Stock with
his '87 Camaro, and veteran Keith Lynch, of Mount Ayr, Iowa, in his '69
Camaro, who leads the way in Stock Eliminator

     More than 550 drivers and their crews are on hand, attempting to
improve their position in NHRA North Central and national Lucas Oil
Series points standings.  There is $135,000 up for grabs this weekend
and a $561,000 post-season bonus fund from Lucas.

Summer Thunder continues Saturday at Edgewater.  Gates open at 8 a.m.
Jr. Dragsters will run at 8:30 a.m. Qualifying and time trials for Lucas
Series racers begin at 9 a.m. with sessions for the 260 mph Alcohol
Dragsters and Funny Cars slated for 5 and 8:30 p.m.  Defending Champions
Bill Reichert (TAD) and Bobby Martin (TAFC) will lead the charge for the
low qualifying bonus money being paid by Spitzer Race Cars of
Indianapolis.  

Cars running in the special Top Sportsman Eliminator, which is running
in addition to the Lucas Series categories, will qualify at 4:30 and 8
p.m.

Final Eliminations are Sunday, beginning at 9 a.m. with the first rounds
of Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car at 1 p.m.

   Tickets are $25 Saturday and $20 Sunday for adult general admission
and pit pass. A weekend Super Ticket is $40.  Children 6-12 are $5 each
day and those five years old and younger are admitted free with a paid
