Dewease Wins on Last Lap Pass at SSP on Thursday
Newberrytown, PA (August 4, 2005) – Lance Dewease pulled out a thrilling
last turn win in the 25-lap Sprint Car feature at the Susquehanna Speedway
Park on Thursday evening. In other action Gene Knaub won his fourth Xtreme
Stock Car feature, Jimmy Smith won the XSC Rookie Rumble, Bob Campbell won the
Penn-Mar Vintage Stock feature, and Scott Fisher was the Mini Van Flag Pole
Race winner. Jason Goodling won the Smashmasters Demo Derby.
Dewease started 12th in the Sprint Car race, and steadily worked his way
toward the front. Meanwhile, Sprint Car rookie Michael Carber led the first
five laps before yielding the top spot to two time winner Cory Haas. Haas
appeared headed for another win, but Dewease had other ideas. In lapped
traffic, dewease shot under Haas on the third turn of the final lap and raced to
victory lane. The win was Dewease’s second of the season, and 12th career at
SSP Haas had to settle for second spot, with Alan Krimes third. Point leader
Greg Hodnett and Fred Rahmer completed the top five. Blane Heimbach, Eric
Stambaugh, Dave Cordier, Carber and Matt Miller completed the top ten Heats
went to Dewease and Hodnett.
Knaub started firth in the 25 lap Xtreme Stock feature, but hadthe lead by
the end of the first lap. From that point on his strongest competition came
from the car he owns and rove to two of his four wins. This time it was Rick
Reinoehl driving. Reinoehl pressured his car owner over the final laps,
but had to settle for second. Point leader Mike Goodwin, Bryon Sipe and Steve
Clemens completed the top five. Larry Hughes Jr. won the Pepsi Dash.
Jimmy Smith took the lead from Rich Lomman on the 6th of 15 laps to win the
XSC Rookie Rumble. Smith went on to the win over Brent Fogelsanger. Carl
Sipe, Brian Lomman, and Terry Myers completed the top five.
Campbell battled most of the race with Jeff Gamble, but came out on top for
his third win of the season at SSP in Penn-Mar’s Modified vintage stocks.
Paul Hoffman ,who finished sixth overall, was the winner of the sportsman
portion of the event.
The next Sunday night event will be August 7 with Camera and Autograph Night
featuring the Trail Motors Super Sportsman Series along with the Silver
Spring Street Stocks, Four Cylinders and a Road Warrior Construction Race. All
fans will have the opportunity to meet their favorite drivers with their cars
on the frontstretch before the feature events.
Gates open in the pit area and grandstands at 5:00 p.m. Warm-ups begin at
7:00 p.m. with racing beginning promptly at 7:30 p.m. SSP will continue
its Repeat Fan Discount in which there will be a $2.00 discount for each
person on August 7 with a ticket stub from the July 24 and August 4 events only.
Returning fans are encouraged to write their name, address and phone number
on the back of the stub to be entered into special drawings during the
season for great prizes. Last season, the grand prize was two tickets for the
October NASCAR race at the Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Pit pass prices are $20.00 with a reduced price of $18.00 for all track
licensee holders.
The next Thursday night race at SSP will be August 11 with Camera and
Autograph night featuring the return of the Topless Late Models along with the
Xtreme Stock Cars, XSC Rookie Rumble, and the EMMR Vintage Club Cars. All fans
will have the opportunity to meet their favorite drivers with their cars on
the frontstretch before the feature events. The topless Late Models will
compete exclusively under the rules of the Silver Springs Late Models
(_www.silverspringspeedway.com_ (http://www.silverspringspeedway.com/) ) with the
Hoosier spec HTMA tire used on all four corners. If needed, a rain date will be
announced for this event.
