Freescale Shows Off Embedded Linux(R) Wares at LinuxWorld(R) Conference and Expo Events; Leading Supplier of Embedded Processors and Mobile Platforms Brings Embedded Expertise to Linux(R) Software Deployment

AUSTIN, Texas--Aug. 4, 2005--Freescale Semiconductor is showcasing its embedded Linux solutions at LinuxWorld in San Francisco, Aug. 9-11, and in Beijing, Aug. 17, 2005-19.

Freescale's Linux demonstrations span a range of markets -- networking, consumer, automotive and wireless -- and underscore the company's commitment to supplying customers with the silicon, tools and Linux software required to help create successful products based on the Linux operating system (OS). For more information on Freescale's Linux solutions visit www.freescale.com/linux.

"Linux is a potent and growing force in embedded markets, and Freescale believes silicon suppliers must play a central role in facilitating professional-grade embedded Linux solutions," said Sumit Sadana, Freescale's senior vice president of strategy and business development. "We have long recognized that Linux frees developers to innovate while helping companies realize cost savings. Our Linux initiative supports these goals through best-in-class silicon products and platforms, as well as turnkey Linux development solutions for a wide variety of embedded markets."

At LinuxWorld in San Francisco, August 9-11, Moscone Center, booth #945, Freescale will demonstrate several Linux-based solutions:

-- Freescale's digital entertainment center based on the Linux operating system running on a platform based on the PowerPC(R) architecture will be featured. The digital entertainment center demonstrates virtually all the entertainment capabilities of a typical household in one box - DVD, music CD, video files (MPEG2, MPEG4), broadcast TV, pictures and games.

-- Freescale's turnkey solution for consumer wireless device manufacturers, the i.MX21 Linux Portable Media Player, will be featured along with an i.MX31 MPEG4 multimedia CODEC demo. Both showcase higher levels of video and graphics capabilities, plug and play connectivity and smart power management for long battery life.

-- Freescale's CodeWarrior(TM) tool suites for Linux OS allow users of the ColdFire(TM) and PowerPC architectures, along with the industrial controls community, to quickly and easily assimilate the Linux OS into next generation products.

With its line of CodeWarrior development tools for Linux and strong relationships with top embedded Linux players, Freescale is helping customers create successful products that combine the stability and cost-saving benefits of embedded Linux OS with the power and advanced technology of Freescale silicon architectures.
