GM Sponsors 2005 Gathering of Black Journalists
ATLANTA – General Motors is proud to be one of the platinum sponsors of the National Association of Black Journalists 30th Anniversary Convention and Career Fair, August 3-7, 2005, at the Hyatt Regency in Atlanta, GA. The NABJ Convention themed – “Telling Our Story” – reflects their goal to continue to voice the passion, pride, purpose and power of black journalists.
The NABJ Annual Convention attracts more than 3,000 attendees nationwide. It is the largest professional gathering of newsmakers and executives from leading media companies devoted to black journalists.
GM will sponsor several events throughout the convention including an Automotive Task Force Panel Discussion focusing on African-Americans in the field of automotive communications. Panel moderator is Warren Brown, automotive columnist, The Washington Post; and panelists are Edd Snyder, executive director, GM Corporate Communications; Leslie Allen, automotive editor, Detroit Free Press; and Greg Morrison, news director, Black Family Channel in Atlanta.
“We are excited to continue to be a sponsor of NABJ,” said Edd Snyder. “Through our partnerships and sponsorship of prominent organizations we are continuing a dialogue with the African-American consumer market by supporting organizations that seek to improve the quality of life in the African-American community.”
Other highlights of GM-sponsored events include, NABJ Founder’s Reception, NABJ Idol contest, concerts by Musiq Soulchild and jazz-saxophonist Mike Phillips, and the popular “Hummer Hoops” 3-on-3 basketball tournament.
The convention also features the nation’s largest journalism career fair and many skills-based and topical workshops, plenary sessions, “super workshops on specialized topics,” and professional development sessions targeted to various journalism disciplines. Former President Bill Clinton is expected to speak on Wednesday, and Bishop T.D. Jake s will serve on a panel on Friday.
