Media Event with IRL Driver Alex Barron on Aug. 9
**MEDIA OPPORTUNITY**
IRL Driver Alex Barron Battles Area Children
in Remote Control Car Racing Event in Oakland, Aug. 9
WHAT: IRL IndyCar Series(r) driver Alex Barron
(Red Bull Cheever Racing) will participate in a remote control car
racing event against children from the El Nido Teen Center in Sonoma, as
well as media members.
WHEN: Tuesday, Aug. 9.
WHERE: Remote control car racing at 11 a.m.,
followed by a luncheon with Barron and members of the media at Scott's
Seafood Restaurant, Jack London Square, Oakland (510-444-3456). The
remote control car racing will take place just outside the restaurant on
the waterfront.
PURPOSE: Barron will preview the upcoming Argent
Mortgage Indy Grand Prix at Infineon Raceway, Aug. 26-28. This will mark
the first-ever event on a permanent road course in the 10-year history
of the IRL.
IN ADDITION: The event is also being held as a promotion for
the 1st IRL Grand Marshall's Banquet, which will be held on Friday, Aug.
26, at the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn. All proceeds from the banquet,
which will honor Grand Marshall Al Unser, will go to the El Nido Teen
Center in Sonoma through Speedway Children's Charities, the charitable
arm of Infineon Raceway.
ABOUT
BARRON: Barron, a California native, is currently 12th
in the IRL standings, trailing Danica Patrick for 11th place by just 12
points. He has three top-10 finishes this year, including a season-best
sixth at Richmond. He has two career IRL victories and his favorite
pre-race meal is a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
