Edwards' Dramatic Final Day in F Modified Leads Super

The Tire Rack SCCA Solo Tour in Denver

DENVER, Colo. (Aug. 2, 2005) - Though he was in a tight battle for the
lead, it had not been a very good Sunday for Lawrence Edwards, of
Loveland, Colo., as he prepared to make his final F Modified run at the
Denver International Airport, site of the year's eleventh and final The
Tire Rack(r) SCCA Solo National Tour.

Down to his final run and sitting in second place behind Rick Clark, of
Richardson, Texas, after turning in a very ordinary first run in his
Lefthandracing.com 2002 Maverick F-500 and a DNF on his second, Edwards
ripped off perhaps the most clutch run of his Solo career with a 61.996,
the fastest time of the weekend for F Mod. The run snatched the class
win from Clark by 0.021-sec., leaving Clark's ProTape/Texas Body Work
1983 KBS MK 4 in the runner-up spot, followed by Gary Kramar, of
Arlington, Texas, finished third.

Paul Brown, of Los Alamos, N.M., also needed some second-day magic in
order to land a Denver National Tour win. Driving the Isotope
Wheels/Automotive Professionals 1993 Toyota MR2, Brown steadily improved
with each of his three Sunday attempts and beat out Joe Silva, of
Manhattan, Kan., by 0.355-sec. to take the top spot in E Stock. Silva,
in his EvilSpeed Racing/Devolver Films 1993 MR2, ended up well in front
of third-place finisher Jack Nichols, of Westminster, Colo., who drove a
1991 MR2.

In G Stock, late cone troubles nearly derailed the winning hopes of
Craig Wilcox, of Blue Springs, Mo. Though Wilcox nailed three pylons on
his second attempt Sunday and another one on his last attempt in the
Baron Mini/SoloRacer.com 2005 Mini Cooper S, his first attempt's time of
70.250 proved untouchable, giving him the class victory by just
0.136-sec. over the 2005 Mini Cooper S driven by Jacob Nygaard, of
Kirkland, Wash. Wilcox's co-driver, Ryan Barnard, of Grain Valley, Mo.,
finished third.

Cones also tried to befuddle D Street Prepared winner David Fauth, of
Aurora, Colo., but in the end, no one in the DSP class could muster the
speed that Fauth did in the BimmerHaus/Hoosier 1995 BMW 325is. Posting
the fast times for DSP both days, Fauth finished 0.628-sec. ahead of
co-driver Dan Goodman, of Erie, Colo. Rei Makino, of Littleton, Colo.,
came in a very distant third in his 1989 Volkswagen Golf, 7.283 seconds
behind Goodman.

Ralph Elder, of Folsom, Calif., dove in behind the wheel of the Kevin
Youngers' owned 2002 BMW 330ci this weekend and earned the D Stock win,
beating out Youngers by 0.854-sec. Local competitor Mark Smith, of
Denver, Colo., finished third in his SCR Performance 2004 Volkswagen
Golf. Youngers' finish was a good one considering the schedule he
pulled all weekend by taking part in not only the National Tour event,
but also the SCCA Club Racing National event down the road at Second
Creek Raceway.

Robert Seelig, of Edmond, Okla., was hot early and impressively stemmed
the Mazda Miata tide in Street Touring Sport 2, taking top honors in the
class by 1.233 seconds in the Kumho/Redline/Carbotech 1989 Honda CRX.
Jonathan Johle, of Oklahoma City, Okla., was the top Miata competitor in
STS2 as he took second in a 1990 Miata, while Aaron Leliaert, of
Louisville, Colo., took third in a 1993 Miata. Miatas took spots 2-6 in
the class.

With the Solo National Tour event slate now complete, all attention
turns to The Tire Rack SCCA ProSolo NationalSeries regular season finale
in Toledo, Ohio. Point battles are tight in many classes, and
competitors who want to be on top of their class heading into the season
finale at Forbes Field in Topeka will need a good showing.
