FORD'S DEARBORN STAMPING PLANT FEATURED ON HISTORY CHANNEL'S WORLD'S BIGGEST MACHINES
DEARBORN, Mich., Aug. 1 - One of the world's largest modern day machines, the Schuler press at Dearborn Stamping Plant on the historic Ford Rouge Center, will be featured on the History Channel's Modern Marvels: World's Biggest Machines 4. The show airs Tuesday, Aug. 2, 10 p.m. (ET).
The show, which gives viewers a close-up view of the world's biggest and most technologically advanced machines, shows how the Ford stamping press turns 700,000 pounds of steel per day into doors for the country's best-selling truck, the Ford F-150.
"The technologically advanced Schuler press is more efficient than traditional stamping presses and allows for greater precision and accuracy," says Frank Piazza, plant manager of Dearborn Stamping. "Having our operations recognized on national television is a testament to Ford Motor Company, Dearborn Stamping Plant and its employees. The Schuler press is approximately 187 feet long, 38 feet wide by 32 feet high and weighs 2,600 tons - about that of six Boeing 747s. It is considerably faster than traditional press lines and allows various parts to be stamped simultaneously. Schuler presses are operating at five of Ford North American plants: Dearborn Stamping, Buffalo Stamping, Kentucky Truck, Chicago Stamping and Woodhaven Stamping.
Ford's Dearborn Stamping Plant is located in the Ford Rouge Center in Dearborn, Mich. The plant, which opened in 1939, employs approximately 800 people and primarily stamps assemblies for all doors and hoods for the F-150.
