FLOCK MAINTAINS WESTERN MIDGET LEAD AFTER BELLEVILLE
SERIES "IDLE" UNTIL AUGUST 27
Robby Flock of Murrieta, Calif. continues to lead the USAC
Western Midget Car Series points after finishing eighth in Saturday night's
28th Bud Racing "Belleville Midget Nationals" in Kansas. The Western series
is idle until an Aug. 27 race at Stockton (Calif.) 99 Speedway.
Flock emerged from the Belleville weekend with a 75-point lead
over Jerome Rodela, who finished 13th at Belleville Saturday. The two
finished fifth and seventh at the 1/2-mile dirt Belleville oval on Friday
night.
Eight of the "top-10" in the Western standings competed at
Belleville as a half-dozen drivers from western states populated the
"top-10," led by Arizona's Jerry Coons, Jr., winner of the race.
Coons, of Tucson, Ariz., led all 40 laps of Saturday night's
Belleville finale to beat Davey Ray, Johnny Rodriguez, Danny Stratton and
Tracy Hines. Coons also finished second Friday behind 25-lap race winner
Dave Darland. Ray, Hines and Flock rounded out the "top-five" on Friday.
Tuesday night's Pepsi "Mid-Summer Nationals" at Eagle Raceway
in Lincoln, Neb. was rained out.
