Q Racing Driver Advances to Second Round
SONOMA, Calif. (July 31, 2005) - Q Racing Nitro Funny Car driver Tony
Pedregon moved his way to the second round of eliminations during today's
FRAM Autolite NHRA at Infineon Raceway.
During the second round of eliminations, the Q car encountered an ignition
system problem that wrested power from the engine. Pedregon lapped the
Sonoma
quarter mile in 5.040 seconds at 274.94 mph, falling to Tony Bartone¹s pass
of 4.941 seconds at 313.29 mph.
In round one, Pedregon outran brother Cruz - who smoked the tires - clicking
off a 4.874-second elapsed time at 316.38 mph to Cruz¹s effort of 5.933
seconds at 160.25 mph.
³The Q team is satisfied with the car set up and adjustments we put into
place today,² Pedregon explained. ³Everything in the car reacted as we had
expected, but we experienced a glitch in the ignition that cost us the
second round.²
Pedregon comments on this year¹s progression of the Q Racing team after
completing the West Coast swing - Denver, Seattle and Sonoma.
³I really like the direction this team is taking,² Pedregon said ³Dickie
(Venbables, crew chief)
and I are pleased we have a predictable car that responds to our input. We
are getting better as the race season advances; we are gaining experience
and consistency, pair that with good performance and we¹ll be right on
track.²
The California resident leaves the Infineon Raceway with a track record
elapsed time of 4.759 seconds at 321.12 mph. So far this year, Pedregon has
also qualified in the number one position and broken the elapsed-time record
in Pomona, Calif. with a 4.681-second pass, and Chandler, Ariz., at 4.703
seconds.
