HERTA DRIVES XM SATELLITE RADIO CAR TO POPULAR WIN AT MICHIGAN
BROOKLYN, Mich. (July 31, 2005) - XM Satellite Radio driver Bryan Herta dominated Sunday's
running of the Firestone Indy 400 at Michigan International Speedway before fighting off a charge from
Klein Tools/Jim Beam teammate Dan Wheldon to score his first win of 2005.
Herta, who started from the pole, led 159 of the 200 laps on Sunday, but beat Wheldon to the line by
just .0374 of a second in the 11th-closest finish in the history of the Indy Racing LeagueŽ IndyCarŽ Series.
Herta dominated the first half of the event, leading 107 of the first 114 laps while building leads as
large as 10 seconds. However, during the final 80 laps, the lead changed hands nine times with Herta taking
the point on four different occasions including the final 25 circuits.
Tomas Scheckter finished third, followed by AGR teammate Tony Kanaan and Sam Hornish Jr.
The win was Herta's second in the IndyCar Series and his first since July 2003 at Kansas Speedway.
Andretti Green is now seven of 11 in 2005, as Herta became the team's fourth driver to visit victory lane.
Herta's win also marked the 33rd consecutive race that AGR has placed at least one car in the top three.
With Herta's win, one lucky entrant in XM Satellite Radio's Fast Cash Promotion will be awarded a
$10,000 cash prize, which will be presented to the recipient at Kentucky Speedway.
The IndyCar Series schedule resumes Sunday, August 14, from Kentucky Speedway. Live
coverage of the AMBER Alert Portal Indy 300 begins at 3:30 p.m. (EDT) on ABC. It can also be heard live
by XM Satellite Radio subscribers on Extreme XM, channel 152.
Bryan Herta, #7 XM Satellite Radio Dallara/Honda/Firestone:
"I feel very relieved. I haven't won since 2003, so I have been dying to get this win in. We've
accomplished what the team wanted this year, which was to have all four drivers win a race. We've
accomplished what I wanted, which was to get a win this year in the XM Satellite Radio car, so we really feel
good right now. The team gave me a dominant car and a better one than I've ever had on a superspeedway.
This is a great day for the entire team and I can't thank them enough for all the work they've done.
George Klotz, Team Manager, #7 XM Satellite Radio Dallara/Honda/Firestone:
"This XM Satellite Radio team was so down. We had a great run at Indy and then got into a 'funk'
there for a while, but everyone stuck together and it just shows the strength of the team. I can't say enough
about the whole XM crew. We stuck together and this weekend we were rewarded with a pole, most laps led
and a win. It's just a dream. I'm so happy for Bryan, (race engineer) Martin (Pare), the whole crew, everybody
at AGR and everybody at XM Satellite Radio."
