HERTA TAKES THE POLE AT MICHIGAN IN XM SATELLITE RADIO CAR
BROOKLYN, Mich. (July 30, 2005) - Bryan Herta, driver of the #7 XM Satellite Radio car,
earned his third career IndyCar Series pole position for Sunday's running of the Firestone Indy 400 at
Michigan International Speedway. Herta had a best-lap speed of 219.141 miles per hour (32.8556
seconds) on his second qualifying lap.
Herta joins Sam Hornish Jr. and Tomas Scheckter as the only three drivers in 2005 to have
earned three pole positions. Earlier in 2005, Herta claimed two-consecutive poles at Phoenix
International Raceway and the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.
Tomorrow's race goes green at 3:15 p.m. (EDT) with ABC Sports providing live coverage of
the event beginning at 3 p.m. (EDT). The 11th race of the 2005 Indy Racing League® IndyCar® Series
schedule can be heard live by XM Satellite Radio subscribers on Extreme XM, channel 152.
Bryan Herta, #7 XM Satellite Radio Dallara/Honda/Firestone:
"The XM Satellite Radio car was very fast today and I'm really pleased about that. We've
struggled on the last few tracks like this and I was really worried coming here. However, I can't thank
the team enough for giving me a good car, Honda for supplying us with the engine and Firestone for
providing us such great tires. I know that what happened today won't have a great deal of effect on
the outcome of tomorrow's race. This is a track with a lot of different grooves, so just because we're
on the pole, I don't expect it to be a lot easier than it would be if we'd qualified anywhere else."
