!!! STANBROUGH DRIVES FOX CAR TO RED CLAY VICTORY!!!

BARROW & DUBOIS WIN TOO

BLOOMINGTON, IN (JULY 30, 2005) - The fans at Bloomington Speedway were treated to another great night of racing last night. The weather was exceptional and the racing was even better. After getting a welcome break from the heat and with no rain expected, it was a perfect night to take the family to Bloomington Speedway where mom and dad and all of the kids 12 and under could enjoy can enjoy a great evening of racing for twenty bucks. Try to take the family to a movie for that .

SPRINT CARS -

Last night was the first night in three weeks that our sprint car racers have had an opportunity to earn points toward the Bloomington Speedway championship. In years past our Indiana Sprint Week race was a points race. However, our promoter, Mike Miles, is adamant that all drivers competing with us regularly have an equal shot at the championship. Since we have some competitors who are under 16, they would not have had the opportunity to race in our Indiana Sprint Week show. For that reason, nobody gets points for sprint week.

Shane Hollingsworth got his evening off to a goodstart by setting quick time. Jon Stanbrough, A.J. Anderson, Bobby Stines, Dick Gaines II, and Jared Fox made up the balance of the fastest six qualifiers. Kenny Carmichael, Steve Rone, and Kevin Chambers all won their heat races.

Two of the fastest qualifiers, Hollingsworth and Stines, failed to transfer to the feature through their heat race; however, when the green flag dropped to start the "B" feature, they knew that they could correct the situation by finishing in the top five of the "B". Stines got the jump on Hollingsworth and led the "B" flag to flag; however, Hollingsworth followed him for the entire 12 circuits to finish second. Dave Peperak, Jason Knoke, and Kevin Besecker also transferred from the "B" to the feature event. The stage was set for another Bloomington Speedway sprint car feature.

When the green flag waved to start the feature, Kevin Briscoe's sprinter rolled to a stop outside of the second turn. His car had, apparently, jumped out of geat. He was able to restart; but he would have to go to the tail. The red clay track stays good enough to make winning from the tail possible, the level of our competition makes it a chancy endeavor at best. Briscoe would have to pass a lot of very good cars to achieve another Bloomington Speedway victory. You never want to bet against Briscoe at Bloomington Speedway; but he would have his hands full.

A.J. Anderson took the initial lead; but Jon Stanbrough was right behind him in the new Fox car. Anderson managed to hold the lead until the eighth circuit when Stanbrough took the point. Jon held the lead until the checkered flags waved. Anderson held onto second place; but he couldn't get past Stanbrough.

On the fourth lap Michael Pickens and Brady Short tangled in turn four. Pickens night was done; but Short escaped with a flat tire. He pulled into the work area for service; but before he could get the tire changed the race resumed without him. The yellow flew again shortly for a shunt involving Jon Sciscoe, Dick Gaines II, and Jared Fox, with only young fox being able to restart. Unfortunately for Short, a lap was scored between the two yellows; and Brady would take the checkered flag a lap down.

Young Bryan Clauson's troubles continued this week when his motor failed in hot laps. Racing had not yet begun when we saw the their hauler exit the pits. It was obvious that the failure we saw had been terminal.

Hard charger honors would have to be split between Kevin Briscoe and Jason Knoke. Kevin fought his way back to a fourth place finish after having to go to the tail when his car came out of gear. Knoke started dead last and fought his way to a seventh place finish. That was his best finish of the season on the red clay.

Gary Barrow & Shelby Miles Stage Another Great Modified Battle -

Gary Barrow and Shelby Miles both won their heat races; and Miles edged Barrow in the dash. They started side by side on the front row of the feature and began a battle that would continue for the entire race. It seemed as if Miles was well on his way to winning his second feature win in as many weeks on the red clay. Shelby held the point for the first 17 circuits; but he wasn't putting any distance between his mount and Barrow's. On the 18th lap Barrow slipped past Miles to take the lead. In spite of trying every line on the track, Shelby couldn't find his way back past Barrow.

Points leader Jesse Cramer experienced mechanical difficulties during his heat race. As his car rolled to a stop in the infield, it appeared that his points lead was about ready to take a serious hit this week. However, his crew got the car repaired in time for Jesse to roll out for the "B" feature. Although he started the "B" on the tail, he sliced his way through the field to take the lead in the "B" on the final circuit. Although he would have to start feature in 16th place, he would at least have a chance to salvage a decent finish for the evening. Jesse fought his way to a fourth place finish in the feature.

In preliminary action, Miles, Barrow, and Ray Humphrey won the heat races while Miles won the dash and Cramer prevailed in the "B" feature.

Tire & Wheel Center Super Stocks -

Ben DuBois found his way to victory lane for the second time this season last night. Although the win almost certainly was insufficient to return DuBois to the Tire & Wheel Center super stock points lead, it will tightened the race for the championship.

Lee Hobbs won the dash to earn the right to start the feature on the pole. When the green flag waved, Hobbs charged into the lead. Mike Cawood started the feature directly behind Hobbs; and he charged past Chris Hillman to take second place. On the second lap DuBois passed Hillman to take third. It was Hobbs, Cawood, and DuBois through the 14th lap. On the 15th circuit DuBois charged past both Cawood and Hobbs to take the point. On the 21st lap, Cawood got past Hobbs to take second. Last night was Cawood's first visit of the season to the red clay; and it appears that Mike has been making some big improvements to his program since last season. His best finish last season was a 15th; and his best season ever was a seventh. It was clear that Cawood's performance was no fluke. When a super stock driver car hold his own with the likes of DuBois, Hobbs, Danny Harris, etc., he's on top of his game.

Greg Amick had to make his way to the feature by winning the "B" feature; however, when the feature started he began working his way to the front. He had made it to seventh place when he ran out of laps.

In preliminary action, Chris Hillman, Lee Hobbs, and Mike Cawood won the heat races while Hobbs took the dash and Greg Amick prevailed in the "B" feature.
