CYTOMAX SPORTS DRINK 100 SAN JOSE, Calif. (July 29, 2005) Trans-Am series rookie, Klaus Graf, set the second fastest lap time of 28 drivers during qualifying for the Cytomax Sports Drink 100. Graf turned a lap of 1:05.567 (79.5 mph) around the 1.44-mile San Jose street course in the No. 7 Jaguar R Performance XKR. A slick, tight racetrack played a roll as Paul Gentilozzi in the No. 1 Jaguar R Performance XKR and Tomy Drissi in the No. 5 Four Brothers the Movie Jaguar XKR set the seventh and eleventh fastest times respectively. After very little track time in the only practice session, Graf set the fastest lap time after only four laps in qualifying and parked his Jaguar to save wear on his race tires. With just a few minutes remaining in the abbreviated session, Boris Said turned a time 6/10th of a second quicker and bumped the German native from what would have been his fourth career Trans-Am pole. “I learned the track in qualifying because we didn’t have much of a session in free practice. We had some trouble there,” declared Graf. “Qualifying was really my first time on the track. I put on some good laps but still we couldn’t work on the car for qualifying, so it was like jumping in cold water. I think with a good practice session I could have given Boris a better run for his money.”With the first practice session eliminated and the second shortened by two red flags, finding the proper set-up for inaugural Cytomax Sports Drink 100 proved difficult. “Circumstances made getting a hold of the track challenging,” said Gentilozzi. “We only were able to make a handful of lap in our only practice session today and with a split qualifying session we were not able to work on the car. The race will be interesting. I will have to be patient while working my way to the front.”The lack of practice time and a 15 minute qualifying session worked against Drissi and the Four Brothers the Movie crew. The California resident will look to recover with another top-three finish or the win. “Today just wasn’t our day,” said Drissi. “With the long wait before we went out for practice and the red flags during the session we just couldn’t make enough laps to get a feel for the track. I am really disappointed with our starting position, we should have been better. I am not going to count us out for the victory but it will be tough.” The Cytomax Sports Drink 100 from the streets of San Jose is scheduled for Saturday, July 30th at 7:00 pm Eastern time. You can watch the taped-delayed excitement on Sunday, August 7th on SPEED Channel at 12:30 pm Eastern time.-RSR-
