Summer Cycling Series in August


 

            SONOMA, Calif. (IMMEDIATE RELEASE) - Pedal power will take
over Infineon Raceway in August as the Sonoma Valley facility will open
its gates to cyclists of all ages. 

 

The Summer Cycling Series will take place Aug. 4, 11, and 18 with
cyclists using the same 10-turn, 1.99-mile road course that is used by
the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series each year.  The series is sponsored by both
Infineon Raceway and the Infineon Raceway Cycling Team/Napa Valley Velo.

 

The event continues Infineon Raceway's commitment to cycling. The
raceway held a Spring Cycling Series this past April, and a Summer
Cycling Series in 2004. In all, more than 250 cyclists from all parts of
the Bay Area have taken part in the program.

 

Gates will open at 5 p.m. for each racing date in the Summer Cycling
Series, with registration beginning at 5:30 p.m.  There will be one race
for both A/B level riders beginning at 6:45 p.m. The race will last
approximately 45 minutes and the top three finishers in each class will
receive both cash and contingency prizes.  

 

Cost is $10 per competitor each day, and all riders must have a United
States Cycling Federation license to compete. A one-day license is
available for purchase at Infineon Raceway on the day of the event.  For

The cycling continues in September as the raceway will hold the Infineon
Technologies Cougar Mountain Classic (Sept. 9-11). This event will
feature the best in downhill, mountain cross, mountain bike cross
country, road cycling and an eight-hour enduro. There will also be a 15K
