Autosport Development Portland Pre-Race Report
Hayner and MacDonald Take Advantage of Promoter’s Test Day
Portland, Ore. July 28 The Autosport Development team returns to the
West Coast this weekend for Round 8 of the SCCA Pro SPEED World
Challenge GT race at Portland International Raceway in Portland,
Oregon. Hoping for cooler temperatures than the 100+ degrees
experienced last year, the team likes their chances.
After today’s practice sessions, both Hayner and the team were very
confident.
“Last year we had our best finish of the season at this track,”
remarked Crew Chief, Rob Wanamaker, referring to their 11th place
finish in 2004. “Granted, our 2005 cars are brand new and something
of a different beast, but we like our chances on this track.”
Stu Hayner agreed. “We have a lot of confidence in the new cars now,”
said Stu. “While last year’s set-up sheets aren’t applicable, we do
know what we weren’t able to do and what we can do now to affect the
handling. Trust me, the #5 GMAC Commercial Finance / Trenton Forging
GTO is very capable of running up front and mixing it up. We’re not
going to be bashful. This is a momentum track and I think it suits my
style. We’re setting up to go to the front.”
Joining Stu this weekend and driving the #7 Autosport Development GTO
is Steve MacDonald of Woodinville, Washington.
“I’m looking forward to working with Stu and the entire Autosport
Development team,” said MacDonald. “They run a great program and the
car is really well prepared. This is something I’ve looked forward to
doing and I think Stu and the team are a great fit for me. These guys
have made me feel right at home. Hopefully, it will be a good weekend
for us all.”
Jim Osborn and Chili Pepper Racing for Remote Area Medical are slated
to return to the #7 GTO for round 9 in Denver, August 12-14.
The Portland Grand Prix is being held in conjunction with the
American Le Mans Series race that will run Saturday, July 30 live on
SPEED Channel at 8pm EDT. The SPEED World Challenge GT race will run
on Sunday, July 31 at 2:25pm PDT and will air Sunday August 7th at
3pm EDT on SPEED. The Touring Car race will run on Saturday at 1:00pm
PDT and air the following day on SPEED at 3pm EDT.
Autosport Development competes as part of the SPEED World Challenge
GT Series. All events are nationally televised on SPEED channel
(formerly Speedvision). In 2005 the SPEED World Challenge Series
