Final The Tire Rack SCCA Solo Tour of 2005
Stops in Denver This Weekend
TOPEKA, Kan. (July 27, 2005) - One final, mile-high hurdle is all that
remains for SCCA Soloists as they prepare for September's The Tire
Rack(r) SCCA Solo National Championships.
Almost 270 Soloists, many of whom are local, are ready to clear that
jump as they converge on the year's final The Tire Rack SCCA Solo
National Tour at Denver International Airport in Denver, Colo., this
weekend.
Dan Heydlauff and Robert Klingler, both of Colorado Springs, Colo., will
co-drive a 2004 Honda S2000 and should end up toward the front of the A
Stock ranks by weekend's end, along with Steve Sucsy, of Lubbock Texas,
who will pilot his own S2000.
In B Modified, it might very well become a shootout between a pair of
Texans as Stuart Lumpkin, of McKinney, Texas, and Tommy Saunders, of
Southlake, Texas, will co-drive a 1997 Dragon SR1-B and battle for the
class' top spot.
The foursome of Ralph Elder, of Folsom, Calif.; Ron Bauer, of Renton,
Wash.; G.H. Sharp, of Kernersville, N.C.; and Joe Goeke, of Kirkland,
Wash., mixed it up mightily last weekend in Packwood, Wash. with Bauer
coming out on top over Goeke. They will do it again in Denver, and it
wouldn't be too surprising if the results show a different king of the B
Stock hill after Sunday.
Mark Smith, of Denver, and Kevin Youngers, of Greeley, Colo., have each
had generally successful seasons thus far and will go head-to-head in
the Rockies, with Smith in his SCR Performance/Meadowcreektire.com 2004
Volkswagen Golf and Youngers in his familiar 2002 BMW 330Ci.
The husband and wife duo of Paul and Meredith Brown, of Los Alamos,
N.M., will pose a serious threat to the rest of the E Stock field as
they co-drive their Isotope Wheels/Automotive Professionals 1993 Toyota
MR2.
Another couple is in action in a shared ride this weekend as well,
although in different classes.
Bob and Patty Tunnell, of Superior, Colo., have spent the better part of
2005 developing their new BimmerHaus/ApexHyperformance 2005 Mini Cooper
S and will test it out separately with Bob in G Stock and Patty in G
Stock Ladies.
GSL could be a preview of Solo Nationals as Dawn Maxwell, of Phoenix,
Ariz., and Mary Medicus, of Lafayette, Colo., are also in that class,
providing a wealth of talent for Tunnell to gauge her ride against.
Jesse Caudill of Littleton, Colo., could play a factor in who emerges on
top of the 19-strong Street Touring S class as he trots out his

Civic Si. Others who might have a say in who wins include Andy Hollis,
of Austin, Texas, in the Soulspeed 1989 Honda Civic Si and Ryan
Baumgartner, of Superior, Colo, in the ApexRacingGroup.com 1989 Civic
Si.
Action from the year's final Tour event begins Saturday at 8 a.m. as
competitors are split into five heats. Sunday is set to start at 8 a.m.
with an awards presentation to follow at 4:30 p.m. following the
completion of the last heat. All times are Mountain.
