Mobile Crossing Ships WayPoint 200 Portable Navigation System

Full Featured GPS Has One Touch Traffic and Weather, Safety Features, and Bluetooth Satellite Receiver

SUNNYVALE, Calif., July 27 -- Mobile Crossing has begun shipping the WayPoint 200, a GPS navigation system that helps drivers find and reach their destination effectively through traffic and weather reports and numerous features.

Besides real-time, one-touch traffic and weather reports (from Weather Underground), WayPoint 200 offers spoken directions that help you keep your eye on the road and a unique program called TurnAlert, which flashes a lamp in the driver's peripheral vision to signal coming turns even under low visibility conditions.

The new all-in-one WayPoint solution requires almost no set-up out of the box. Software is pre-loaded. A Bluetooth satellite receiver is ready to go. The WayPoint 200 is also small and light enough (six ounces) to carry around or move from vehicle to vehicle. With its eight-hour lithium battery, it is the perfect companion for walking tours, bicycle rides or day hikes. As an organizer, it will keep going all day on a full charge.

While it's designed to be a navigation system first, it also serves as a full-featured Pocket PC that runs all Windows Mobile applications.

WayPoint 200 comes with built-in, full color moving navigation maps powered by NAVTEQ, USB cable, vehicle mounts, and home charger and cradle. A full-color, touch screen graphic display is intuitive and readable in day light as well as low glare night conditions. Other notable features are Compact Flash and SD (Secure Digital) slots, an IrDA Port (infrared), and a USB SyncPort.

"The Waypoint 200 provides instant access to the driver's basic needs with just a click of a button," said Calvin Chu, Mobile Crossing's product manager. "Those needs include finding parking and food, avoiding traffic, routing around a bad spot, getting to your favorite places easily, previewing weather along a route, and more.

"The WayPoint 200 has a much more generous combination of RAM/ROM (40/128 MBs) compared to competitors. It also has a more powerful processor -- 400MHz compared to 200/300MHZ on other models," Chu said. "The result is faster graphic performance, scrolling, and zooming."
