NEW RIDE FOR RAY FOR LINCOLN & BELLEVILLE
WISE TAKES MILWAUKEE 25, EXTENDS LEAD
Davey Ray of Davenport, Iowa, who won last year's Pepsi
"Mid-Summer Classic" at Eagle Raceway in Lincoln, Neb., returns for
Tuesday's event at Lincoln in a new ride, with Lincoln's Klatt Motorsports.
Ray will face a formidable field of National and Western stars
in this week's races at Lincoln and Belleville, Kans. Both Tuesday's
Lincoln race and the Friday and Saturday $72,000 28th Bud Racing
"Belleville Midget Nationals" in Kansas offer points toward both the
National and Western championships.
National point leader Josh Wise of Riverside, Calif. and
Western point leader Robby Flock of Murietta, Calif., both former
Belleville champions, lead the field of entrants for this week's races.
Wise leads defending National champ Bobby East by 86 points, while Flock
leads Garrett Hansen by 55 points. Flock and Wise finished fourth and
eighth respectively in last year's Belleville classic behind winner East.
A 40-lap feature tops Tuesday's program at Lincoln, while a
25-lapper is on tap at the Belleville High Banks Friday and Saturday's
Belleville finale is a 40-lapper. The USAC Ford Focus Midgets will also
compete at Belleville on Thursday night.
Wise passed Billy Wease on lap five Saturday and led the rest
of the 25-mile race at the famed Milwaukee Mile in Wisconsin in his Tony
Stewart Racing Mopar/Vital Express Beast. Jerry Coons, Jr. finished second
ahead of Wease, Bobby Santos III and Dave Steele. Michael Lewis was the
fastest qualifier during Friday qualifying at the 1-mile oval.
