STEELE EYES IRP's "J.D. BYRIDER 100"
STAYS UNDEFEATED ON PAVEMENT, LEADS MILWAUKEE WIRE-TO_WIRE
Dave Steele of Tampa, Fla. continued his mastery of the
pavement in the 2005 USAC Weld Racing Silver Crown Series Saturday, winning
the longest (timewise) race in series history at the Milwaukee Mile. He now
looks forward to the "J.D. Byrider 100" at Indianapolis Raceway Park August
4, hoping to become the third driver in series history to win four straight.
Steele led all 100 laps around the 1-mile Wisconsin State Fair
Park oval in his Bob/East/Tony Stewart Beast/Ford. The victory was a record
19th for Stewart as a Silver Crown car owner and the 18th for East. It was
Steele's 14th, third in a row and fourth this year, all on pavement.
Steele claimed the pole for the race at 129.459 mph, his 19th
career pole, just two short of Jimmy Sills' career-leading 21. Only Tom
Bigelow (1975-76) and Jack Hewitt (1986) have won four consecutive series
races.
Trailing Steele at Milwaukee, in a race interrupted four hours
by a rain delay, were Bobby East, Brian Tyler, Jay Drake and Josh Wise.
Indy Racing League vets Jimmy Kite and A.J. Foyt IV finished 13th and 21st
respectively.
