Shuttlesworth Declared Winner in SSP Topless Late Model Race on Thursday Night





Newberrytown, PA (July 21, 2005) -  Lewisberry’s Jim Shuttlesworth was 
declared the winner of the Topless Late Model  race on Thursday night at the 
Susquehanna Speedway Park after Randy Stoudt  failed to pass post race technical 
inspection.  Gene Knaub of Dover picked up the Xtreme Stock Car victory  with Matt 
Newcomer winning the first XSC Rookie Rumble.  Dover’s Alan Witmer won the 
Great American  School Bus race over Heidi Thomas and Timothy Watson of Camp 
Hill picked up the  Mini Van Construction race. 
In the 25-lap Topless Late Model  feature race, Bud Barton jumped out to an 
early lead over pole sitter Jim  Shuttlesworth. Barton led the first 7 laps 
until he skated high coming out of  two which shuffled him all the way back to 
sixth when the train stopped.  Taking the lead on lap eight was Randy  Stoudt.  
Stoudt led for the final 18  circuits but not without intense pressure from 
Shuttleworth and Jerry Bard.  At the finish Stoudt crossed first, but  lost the 
race after failing to pass post race technical inspection.  Therefore, Jim 
Shuttleworth was declared  the winner over Scott McCann who came from 19th to 
finish  second.  Jerry Bard, Bud Witmer and  Carl Billet rounded out the top 
five.  Heats for the 33 Late Models went to Larry Baer, Dave Sokoloski and Carl  
Graves.  Scott McCann won the  consolation race.  The Topless Late  Models 
return to SSP on Thursday night, August 11. 
For the win as a bonus, Shuttlesworth  also picked up a $75 gift certificate 
from Bernheisel Race Cars of  Jonestown.  Runner-up, Scott McCann  will 
receive a $50 gift certificate from Miller’s Racing Parts of Camp  Hill.  Jerry Bard 
will receive a $50  gift certificate from Bernheisel, Bud Witmer will get a 
$50 gift certificate  from Miller’s and Carl Billet will get a $25 gift 
certificate from Bernheisel’s  as well.   
Gene Knaub picked up the victory in the  20-lap Xtreme Stock Car feature.  He 
 took the lead from runner-up Matt Wampler on lap 15 after starting  21st in 
the field.  Brian  Sanders finished third with Michael Goodwin and Sam Rial 
completing the top  five.  Matt Newcomer won the XSC  “Rookie Rumble.�??   
The next event will be Sunday night,  July 24 with Christmas in July and York 
County Racing Club Night featuring the  Trail Motors Super Sportsman Series 
along with the Silver Spring Street Stock  and the W.O.W. Stocks (Women on 
Wheels).  Santa will also host a Kid’s Toy Scramble on Sunday night.  The raindate 
will be Sunday, July 31 if  necessary.         
Gates open in the pit area and grandstands at 5:00  p.m.  Warm-ups begin at 
7:00  p.m. with racing beginning  promptly at 7:30 p.m.  SSP will  continue its 
Repeat Fan Discount in which there will be a $2.00 discount for  each person 
with a ticket stub from the July 3 or July 21 events only.  For example, $2.00 
off an Adult ticket  for July 24 with and Adult ticket stub from the July 3 
or July 21  event.  Returning fans are  encouraged to write their name, address 
and phone number on the back of the stub  to be entered into special drawings 
during the season for great prizes.  Last season, the grand prize was two  
tickets for the October NASCAR race at the Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Charlotte, 
North Carolina.  Pit  pass prices are $20.00 with a reduced price of $18.00 for 
all track license  holders.                                           

The next Thursday night  race at SSP will be July 28 with the return of the 
Sprint Cars along with the  Xtreme Stock Cars, XSC Rookie Rumble, Legends Cars 
and a One-on-One Street Car  Drags.  Entries for the Street Car  Drags are 
limited to sixteen and forms are available at sspracing.net or by  calling (717)

- The Super  Sportsman at SSP culminates with the Inaugural 75-lap Trail 
Motors Championship  on Sunday, September 4, paying $2,500 to the winner.  For the 
championship race, there will be  12 automatic qualifiers for the event 
determined by the winners of the following  events: 1) Silver Spring (Sat., May 28 –
 Craig Morrow); 2) SSP (Sun., May 29 –  Russ Mitten); 3) SSP (Sun., June 5 – 
 Dave Calaman); 4) Port Royal (Wed., June 15  - Pat Cannon); 5) SSP (Sun., 
June  19 – Rich Eichelberger); 6) Williams Grove (Fri., June 24 – Danny  
Hager); 7) Silver Spring (Sat., July 2 – Billy Schoffstall); 8) SSP  (Sun., July 3 –
 Frankie Herr); 9) Lincoln (Wed., July 20); 10) SSP (Sun.,  July 24); 11) SSP

championship will qualify through heats and a last chance race.  All Trail

rear spec tire.
