Shuttlesworth Declared Winner in SSP Topless Late Model Race on Thursday
Night
Newberrytown, PA (July 21, 2005) - Lewisberry’s Jim Shuttlesworth was
declared the winner of the Topless Late Model race on Thursday night at the
Susquehanna Speedway Park after Randy Stoudt failed to pass post race technical
inspection. Gene Knaub of Dover picked up the Xtreme Stock Car victory with Matt
Newcomer winning the first XSC Rookie Rumble. Dover’s Alan Witmer won the
Great American School Bus race over Heidi Thomas and Timothy Watson of Camp
Hill picked up the Mini Van Construction race.
In the 25-lap Topless Late Model feature race, Bud Barton jumped out to an
early lead over pole sitter Jim Shuttlesworth. Barton led the first 7 laps
until he skated high coming out of two which shuffled him all the way back to
sixth when the train stopped. Taking the lead on lap eight was Randy Stoudt.
Stoudt led for the final 18 circuits but not without intense pressure from
Shuttleworth and Jerry Bard. At the finish Stoudt crossed first, but lost the
race after failing to pass post race technical inspection. Therefore, Jim
Shuttleworth was declared the winner over Scott McCann who came from 19th to
finish second. Jerry Bard, Bud Witmer and Carl Billet rounded out the top
five. Heats for the 33 Late Models went to Larry Baer, Dave Sokoloski and Carl
Graves. Scott McCann won the consolation race. The Topless Late Models
