Ward's Reports Estimated Weekly North American Vehicle Production - July 21, 2005

SOUTHFIELD, Mich., July 22 -- Vehicle production this week in the U.S., Canada and Mexico is expected to hit an estimated 265,725 units, up 104.4 percent from the 130,006 cars and trucks built last week, according to WardsAuto.com.

The downtime for last week is due to General Motors Corp. and Ford Motor Co. having their traditional summer shutdowns.

Including this week's estimates, calendar year North American output now totals 8,993,609 vehicles, down 0.9 percent from like-2004's pace.

In the U.S., automakers are expected to produce 200,355 vehicles this week, up 117.4 percent from the 92,148 cars and trucks built last week. To date, calendar 2005 U.S. vehicle output totals an estimated 6,690,571 units, down 0.5 percent compared to the 6,726,134 vehicles built in like-2004.

This week's Canadian vehicle production is estimated at 37,130, an increase of 139.9 percent from the 15,480 units assembled last week. Estimated calendar-2005 Canadian vehicle production now stands at 1,438,398 units, down 4.4 percent compared to the 1,504,050 vehicles produced in like- 2004.

Of the cars and trucks slated for production this week in the U.S., General Motors Corp. accounted for 34.0 percent; Ford Motor Co., 25.4 percent; Chrysler of DaimlerChrysler, 7.8 percent; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 9.5 percent; Toyota Motor Mfg. Inc., 0.0 percent; Nissan Motor Mfg. Corp., 7.9 percent; New United Motor Mfg. Inc., 4.2 percent; BMW of North America Inc., 1.3 percent; Mitsubishi Motor Mfg. of America Inc., 1.0 percent; AutoAlliance International Inc., 2.7 percent; Subaru of Indiana Automotive Inc., 1.3 percent; Mercedes-Benz U.S. of DaimlerChrysler, 0.5 percent; and other manufacturers, 4.4 percent.
