Tampa's DPW Specs PowerLinx for New Trucks
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.--July 19, 2005--PowerLinx, Inc. (OTCBB:PWLX), today announced that its DC power-line camera system will be specified for all new refuse-hauling vehicles purchased by the City of Tampa, Florida's Department of Public Works. The PowerLinx PLC camera system eliminates video cables, instead using the vehicle's DC wiring to transmit video images of the vehicle's "blind spots" to an LCD monitor screen in the cab. The refuse-hauling industry was an early adopter of video rear vision, recognizing its value in loss reduction and accident prevention.
All new refuse-hauling vehicle purchases by Tampa's DPW will specify the PowerLinx Hind-Sight(TM) PLC rear vision system. According to James Markus, PowerLinx VP / General Manager of Transportation Technology, the city's decision turned upon servicing costs for cabled video systems. "Our Hind-Sight system with its 'cable-free' technology offers significant maintenance benefits when compared with traditional cabled systems," he said. "We're delighted that the City of Tampa has chosen PowerLinx."
