The solar race began in Austin, Texas, on July 17, 2005, and is scheduled to last 10 days, concluding in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, to an audience of National and International media, as well as interested parties from around the world. A number of Ivy League Universities are competing in the event. A press event is scheduled in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, at the finish line on July 27, 2005, to promote the bilateral environmental initiatives between Canada, The United States and Mexico.

On hand at the international media event was Hybrid's advanced systems manager Martin Koebler. Koebler, a veteran solar car racer and lithium power authority, met with media to discuss the advanced lithium systems Hybrid will be utilizing in their latest production model vehicles such as the government/fleet PT cruiser, R-Car and the Mini Cooper, as well as his expanded role at Hybrid Technologies.
