Stephen J. Girsky To Join General Motors As Special Advisor

DETROIT - General Motors Corp. today announced that Stephen J. Girsky will join the company as a special advisor to GM Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Rick Wagoner, and GM Vice Chairman and Chief Financial Officer John Devine. The full time position is effective August 1, 2005.

"We are pleased to have Steve join General Motors. His deep knowledge and experience in the global auto industry will enable Steve to contribute significantly in support of our key business strategies, including the turn-around of GM North America," said Wagoner.

Girsky was formerly the managing director at Morgan Stanley and the senior analyst of the Morgan Stanley Global Automotive and Auto Parts Research Team. Prior to joining Morgan Stanley, he was managing director of PaineWebber's Automotive Group. He has had prior service at General Motors, as an analyst in the GM Treasurer's Office.

Girksy holds a bachelor of science degree in mathematics from the University of California at Los Angeles and a master's degree in business administration from Harvard Business School.
