Terry Borcheller - Infineon race
third podium
Terry Borcheller of Gainesville, Ga., made it three in a row with a podium
finish in the American Le Mans Series race at Infineon (Sears Point) Raceway
on July 17. The dominant Corvette team continued to power through the
season, taking first and second in the GT1 class, but Borcheller's Saleen
S7R was close behind.
Borcheller's co-driver, Johnny Mowlem of London, England, qualified the
Saleen third on the GT1 grid with a lap of one minute 28.854 seconds on the
2.53-mile road course, just three-tenths of a second off the class pole
position. Mowlem drove the first 66 minutes of the two-hour 45-minute race
and Borcheller took the second stint. Both drove consistent laps to hold
third place to the finish.
"We had a good race. The team did a great job and Johnny did a great job on
the first stint," Borcheller said. "Jim Bell did a great job with the
engineering over the weekend. He and the Michelin rep changed the tire
pressures and that gave us a really good car at the end. It was great fun."
next
Borcheller will commute between Portland, Ore., and Birmingham, Ala., for a
double race weekend. He will drive the Saleen S7R in an American Le Mans
Series race at Portland International Raceway on July 30. After a late-night
flight, he'll be behind the wheel of the No. 54 Bell Motorsports/Feeds the
Need Pontiac-powered Doran JE4 in a Rolex Sports Car Series race at Barber
Motorsports Park in Birmingham on July 31.
