RACING UNDERWAY IN MONTGOMERY

	MONTGOMERY, Ala. - NHRA Southeast Division racers returned to
Montgomery Motorsports Park today to find much of what forced the
postponement of the event's original date; Rain! Scattered showers
caused delays in today's qualifying and finally shortened qualifying
with the fields being set for tomorrow's eliminations.
	Racers took to the track between showers with Guy Kelly and
Montgomery Todd taking the pole positions in Top Alcohol Dragster and
Top Alcohol Funny Car. Kelly, of Wadley, Ala., recorded a pass of 5.534
seconds in 251.46 mph to lead the dragsters followed by Artie Allen with
a run of 5.835 seconds, 240.70 mph.
	Todd, from Montgomery, Ala., sits in the top spot in funny car
covering the quarter-mile in 6.085 seconds at 231.30 mph. Mark
Billington is second at 6.165, 232.25 mph.
	Comp Eliminator pilot David Eaton leads the class in his '32
Batam running 6.901 seconds, 0.619 seconds under the index with Craig
Bourgeois in second at 7.012 seconds, 0.568 under.
Super Stock action had Bob Dennis taking the lead with a run of 10.637
seconds, 1.113 seconds under the index. The Shorter, Ala., racer is
followed by Andy Fogle at 9.421 seconds, 1.129 seconds under.
	Stock Eliminator runner Tom Russell joined in grabbing the No. 1
spot with a 10.650 second run, 1.000 seconds under the index and is
followed by Jeff Velde in his '67 Shelby at 10.313 seconds, 0.987
seconds under.
In the division's Tracstar Systems Satellites Top Sportsman series it
was Jim Harrington on top with a 198.15 mph pass in 7.032 seconds.
Harrington is followed by the '63 Corvette of Ronnie Davis with a 7.113
second pass at 195.31 mph.
Racing continues Sunday at 9:00 with round one of Top Alcohol Dragster
and Funny Car set for noon.  Gates open at 8 a.m. Tickets are $15.  For
