NHRA ACTION UNDERWAY FOR DELAWARE 1ST STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS

	DELMAR, Del. - In the first rounds of qualifying at US 13
Dragway, Super Stock racer Dennis Steward from Dover, Pa., drove his '91
Daytona to the No. 1 qualifying spot with a 10.399 second pass, 1.101
seconds under the index. Steward is joined by Cecil Frazier who grabbed
the top spot in Stock Eliminator with an 11.677 second run, 1.273 under
the index.
	Steward is followed by Bob Cupp and Bucky Hess in Super Stock
with Cupp running 11.545 seconds, 1.005 under and Hess in the No. 3 spot
at 8.901 seconds, 0.999 seconds under in his '68 Barracuda. Sal
Piacentini of Northeast, Md., sits in the No. 5 spot at 11.199, 0.951
under.
	Bill Hawk and Ed Bednaz are second and third respectively behind
Frazier in Stock Eliminator as Hawk drove his '67 Shelby to a run of
10.310 seconds, 1.240 seconds under the index. Bednaz clocked in at
10.391 seconds, 1.109 seconds under.
	The Supercharged Warriors and Bad 8 exhibition classes continued
eliminations late into the evening on Friday as racing was delayed by
light showers during the day.
	Racing continues Saturday at noon with Comp Eliminator
qualifying scheduled for 3 and 5 p.m. and Pro-Mod taking the track from
6 to 10 p.m. Gates open at 10 a.m.  Tickets are $12 for general
admission and $18 with a pit pass.  For more information, call US 13
