Chartered's 200mm and 300mm Fabs Achieve ISO/TS 16949:2002 Quality Management System Standard Certification

SINGAPORE--July 13, 2005--Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing (SGX:CHARTERED), one of the world's top dedicated semiconductor foundries, today announced it has achieved the ISO/TS 16949:2002 quality management system standard certification for all of its 200-millimeter (mm) and 300mm fabrication facilities -- Fab 2, Fab 3, Silicon Manufacturing Partners (SMP or Fab 5), Chartered Silicon Partners (CSP or Fab 6) and Fab 7. The certification reinforces Chartered's world-class standards in quality and reliability assurance across the company's business and manufacturing value chain for delivering innovative and advanced semiconductor products.

Awarded by PSB Certification, Singapore's market leader in system certification, ISO/TS 16949:2002 is currently the industry's most stringent quality management system standard. It defines the quality system elements required for automotive suppliers based on ISO 9001:2000, AVSQ (Italy), EAQF (France), QS-9000 (US) and VDA6.1 (Germany) automotive standards.

Chartered's quality systems and programs were certified to the ISO/TS 16949:2002 standard by demonstrating the ability to satisfy customer requirements; illustrating effectiveness and efficiency of business processes; and demonstrating management's commitment to continually review and enhance product quality, as well as business and operations systems.

"ISO/TS 16949:2002 provides international recognition of Chartered's commitment to continuous improvement based on quality and performance standards which benefit all of our partners and customers across the supply chain," said Seungil "SI" Kim, vice president of quality and reliability assurance at Chartered. "This is an important milestone in our strategic roadmap and further strengthens our quality management systems as we advance into 300mm volume production of nanoscale technologies."
